Two individuals were in the plane but according to the release both were able to successfully get out. They were taken to local hospitals with the initial report being they were in stable condition.

The area was impacted throughout Friday as the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board investigated the accident.

Here is the complete release from the Layton Fire Department:

“At approximately 11:57 p.m., Layton Fire Department, North Davis Fire Department and Layton PD responded to reports of a small aircraft that crashed near HWY193 and Fort Lane.

“There were two occupants on board the aircraft. Both individuals successfully self extricated, and on arrival of EMS they were evaluated and transported to local area hospitals. At this time, both are reported to be in stable condition.

“There was no significant post-crash fires. Firefighters quickly mitigated hazards, including securing the aircraft and addressing fuel spill concerns. There is currently no threat to the surrounding community.

“The cause of the crash is unknown. The investigation has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, who will determine the cause of the accident. Our department will continue to assist those agencies as requested.

“The area surrounding the crash site remains secured while investigators document the scene. We ask the public to avoid the area the best as they can as this will most certainly affect the morning and afternoon commutes.”
