Davis County Sheriff’s Office investigating homicide in West Point

In connection with a homicide investigation, investigators at the Davis County Sheriff's Office are looking for information about a maroon Honda Civic with an orange cover over the rear license plate that was last seen traveling northbound on 2000 West before turning eastbound onto 300 North.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that they say took place Saturday evening in West Point.

According to a release from the office, at approximately 6:25 p.m. deputies responded to reports of shots being fired in the area of 2000 West and 200 North in West Point. When they arrived, they found James Witten, 71, dead on the porch outside the residence.

The release stated that investigators are looking for information about a maroon Honda Civic with an orange cover over the rear license plate that was last seen traveling northbound on 2000 West before turning eastbound onto 300 North.

While no suspects have been identified, the Davis County Sheriff’s Office does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

“The Davis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred Saturday evening in the area of 2000 West and 200 North in West Point.

“At approximately 6:25 p.m., deputies responded to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased 71 year-old male identified as James Witten on the porch outside of the residence. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

“Investigators are currently seeking information regarding a maroon Honda Civic with an orange cover over the rear license plate. The vehicle was last seen traveling northbound on 2000 West before turning eastbound onto 300 North.

“At this time, no suspects have been identified. Investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

“Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area or has information about the vehicle or the incident is asked to contact the Davis County Sheriff’s Office. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”
