Uintah Highlands man faces federal, state sex charges

OGDEN — A man already facing federal child pornography charges has been accused of sexual abuse of a child.

Charges against Laron Thomas Zaugg were filed by the Weber County Attorney’s Office on Friday. He is charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a child and sodomy on a child.

Zaugg has been in custody at the Weber County Jail since April, due to federal charges concerning child pornography distribution. He was arrested by sheriff’s deputies at his Uintah Highlands home on April 30 to be held for federal court.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Zaugg in September 2014, according to a police report. The investigation spun off of the federal charges that resulted in his initial arrest.

He is federally charged with two counts of “activities related to materials constituting/containing child pornography.”

The local charges stem from allegations of ongoing sexual abuse of a child from age 5 to 13, according to the report.
