Layton man sentenced for ‘disturbing’ child porn collection
FARMINGTON — A Layton man’s attorney said his client had been exposed to pornography since he was 13 years old in a hearing that sentenced his client to jail.
“As a young man, his parents ran a bookstore that had a pornography section and he was exposed to since he was 13 years old,” said defense attorney Gregory Smith.
Smith represented Randall Scott Hunt, 45, at his sentencing hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 18, before Judge David Hamilton.
“He was infected with this mentality early on in his life,” Smith said.
Hamilton sentenced Hunt to served 210 days in the Davis County Jail and three years probation with Adult Probation & Parole. He ordered Hunt not to have any access to the Internet on any device, including cell phones and tablets, with approval from AP&P. Hamilton suspended two sentences of 1 to 15 years at the Utah State Prison in lieu of the jail and probation sentences.
Hunt had pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, second-degree felonies in September.
Assistant Attorney General Ann Rozycki said Hunt’s collection of child pornography “is very disturbing.”
“These are real children who are real victims of sexual abuse,” Rozycki said.
Smith said Hunt came to court “a very repentant man .. He’s lost his job. He’s lost his home. He cannot be around chldren.”
Rozycki said Hunt had admitted to officers that he traded more than 200 child pornography videos with others. Officers found 87 child pornography videos on Hunt’s computer, most of them prepubescent children who were being sexually abused.
