Layton man pleads not guilty to child sex abuse charges
FARMINGTON – An 18-year-old Layton man entered not guilty pleas to seven felonies related to child sex abuse charges.
Jace Austin Hunter Warwood appeared in 2nd District Court on Monday, March 28, with his attorney, Kyler Ovard.
Warwood is charged with the following felonies:
- One count of rape of a child, a first-degree felony.
- One count of aggravated sex abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
- One count of sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.
- Two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, second-degree felonies.
- Two counts of dealing in materials harmful to a minor, third-degree felonies.
A pretrial conference is scheduled for April 25.
He is being held in the Davis County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bail.
Police said Warwood met two girls under the age of 14 and they agreed to meet with him. He took them to Fernwood Park on Feb. 24 where he had sexual intercourse with one and allowed the other to touch his genitals.
He also is accused of trading sexually orientated text messages and photographs with the girls.
Warwood told police during an interview he had concerns about their age, but “failed to ask them or establish with them what their ages were,” according to the document. It was only after they finished the sexual activities that the girls told him they were 13, according to court documents.
