The Ogden Raptors got another strong start from Pablo Arevalo for a win Saturday, then lost in their first Knockout Round of the season Sunday to split their six-game series with Idaho Falls at Lindquist Field.

Ogden (10-8) has Monday off before three games in Boise from Tuesday through Thursday. The Raptors then return home for three games against Idaho Falls from Friday, June 16, through Sunday, June 18.

CHUKARS 8, RAPTORS 8 (IF WINS VIA KO)

The Raptors rallied from behind twice Sunday only to lose in the Knockout Round.

Karl Koerper won the game in the third round of the Knockout derby for Idaho Falls after an 8-8 regulation nine innings.

Ogden outfielder Brian Dansereau hit a bases-loaded triple to right-center in the second inning, clearing the bags for a 3-1 Raptors lead.

Lefty Chase Stratton lasted 2 1/3 innings as the starter for Ogden and gave way to Riley Ottesen after putting a runner on board in the third. Ottesen’s streak of 10 2/3 scoreless relief innings to start the season ended with a bang when he put two more on and surrendered a grand slam to Zach May. That put the Chukars in the lead 6-3.

Reese Alexiades homered for the fourth time of the series, a two-run dinger, in the bottom of the third to get the score to 6-5. Then Alexiades doubled in Juan Teixeira in the fifth to tie it up 6-6. Alexiades finished the game 4 for 4 with those three RBIs and two runs scored.

Idaho Falls retook the lead against Raptors reliever Foster Pace in the top of the sixth when Jordan Myrow singled in Bryce Brown and Brandon Bohning to go up 8-6.

Dakota Conners led off the bottom of the ninth getting hit by a pitch and Teixeira doubled with one out. With two outs, Sal Gozzo singled them in for an 8-8 tie.

RAPTORS 10, CHUKARS 2

Pablo Arevalo threw a strong 6 1/3 innings for Ogden while the Raptors chased Idaho Falls starter Dusty Baird after three innings and Ogden cruised to a win in front of 4,644 fans.

Raptors outfielder Brian Dansereau lifted a two-run homer off the scoreboard in the second inning. Infielder Rafael Narea launched a solo homer to left-center in the third inning and Dansereau later scored on a bases-loaded walk to Dakota Conners for a 4-0 lead, bringing Baird’s night to a close.

Arevalo, meanwhile, followed up his complete-game win Sunday in Boise with a less-dominant outing Saturday but one in which he still held full command. Arevalo allowed just three hits and walked zero through five scoreless innings before Idaho Falls found some success in the sixth. Karl Koerper led off the sixth with a double, and he and Bryce Brown scored on a CJ Dunn single for the Chukars’ only runs of the game.

Arevalo ended with seven strikeouts and one walk over his 6 1/3, allowing six hits.

Brandon McCabe (2/3 inning), Dan Kubiuk (one inning) and Adam Scoggins (one inning) finished the final 2 2/3 innings on the mound, allowing just two more hits.

Ogden kept rapping despite not needing any more runs. Cam Phelts doubled in the fifth and scored on a Conners single, and Nick Ultsch scored on a Juan Teixeira sacrifice fly to make it 7-0.

Conners finished 4 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs. Narea and Phelts also had two hits and the Raptors outhit the Chukars 15-8.
