The sixth edition of the Weber State Basketball Alumni Classic will take place Saturday, Aug. 2, the school announced Monday.
It comes with two big changes, the first of which is a new 3-on-3 format as opposed to a full-court, five-on-five exhibition. That should allow for faster-paced action for the gamut of alumni, old and young, who make their way to Ogden every other year.
The second is that it will be played at Swenson Gym. That will definitely mean a more exclusive ticket than previous events in the spacious Dee Events Center, which is currently undergoing renovations with the installation of a geothermal heating and cooling system.
WSU said Monday that capacity for the event will be 1,200. Tickets go on sale July 16, with more information forthcoming.
This year’s alumni events are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. with shooting competitions, followed by the 3-on-3 action. Lillard, who is recovering from an Achilles tendon tear, will not participate but will be available for a pre-game autograph session, the school says.
Former Wildcats slated to attend, among others, the school says, include Davion Berry, Jimmy DeGraffenried, Nick Hansen, JJ Overton, David Patten, Nic Sparrow and Kyle Tresnak. Full rosters will be announced later.
