Yankees-Red Sox to have prime-time starts
NEW YORK — The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will get prime time exposure in Major League Baseball’s Wild Card Series.
All three potential games in the AL first-round matchup that begins Tuesday will start at about 6 p.m. MDT and be televised by NBC, the league said Sunday.
Atlanta’s series, hosting Philadelphia or Arizona, will have Noon MDT games televised on NBC, and the Chicago White Sox series would start at 3 p.m. if at Texas and at 2 p.m. if at Houston, with those games televised by NBCSN.
The Chicago Cubs’ series at San Diego will have 8 p.m. MDT games and be televised by NBCSN.
All games also will be streamed on Peacock in the first year of a contract with MLB that replaced ESPN as the Wild Card Series network.
Games will be televised with Spanish-language commentary on Universo and Univision.
Cam Schlittler will start Game 1 for the Yankees on Tuesday night and be followed in the rotation by Max Fried and Gerrit Cole in the best-of-three matchup against Boston, the team announced Sunday.
Schlittler was 14-6 with an AL-best 1.95 ERA and 239 strikeouts this year, the first full season for the 25-year-old right-hander. Schlittler also allowed one earned run or fewer in his final nine starts, matching Whitey Ford in 1963 for the longest streak in Yankees history.
