PREP SPORTS: Darts win baseball game; soccer and softball also in action
KAYSVILLE – Senior Connor Blaisdell pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout, striking out nine and walking just one, to lead Davis to a 2-0 victory over Copper Hills in the Darts’ season opener Monday.
Copper Hills, which had scored 25 runs in its first two games of the season against Viewmont over the weekend, had no answer for Blaisdell’s off-speed pitch.
“The last thing we wanted them to do was figure out what pitch was coming,” Davis manager Dave Leo said. “He kept them off balance very well.”
Right fielder Tanner Bowden and third baseman Ryker Flint each knocked in a run for the Darts, who also struggled at the plate with just five hits.
“You can simulate a lot of things, but you can’t simulate live pitching,” Leo said.
BOYS SOCCER
Logan 4, Stansbury 2: At Logan, senior Beto Ricon scored a hat trick to lead Logan to a 4-2 victory Monday over Stansbury.
Senior Angel Reyes scored the other goal for the Grizzlies, who never trailed.
Logan coach Sven Rasmussen expects a lot from Ricon this season.
“His ball control is outstanding and he’s very pacey,” Rasmussen said.
Juan Diego 5, St. Joseph 1: At Ogden, Juan Diego jumped all over St. Joseph Monday, defeating the Jayhawks 5-1. Juan Diego led 3-0 at halftime.
Senior David Donlevy was the Jayhawks’ lone goal scorer.

Davis 0, Brighton 0: At Cottonwood Heights, the Darts’ offensive attack couldn’t push across a goal Monday, but captain Tyler Bishop ensured Davis didn’t walk away with a loss.
