OGDEN — Before their final practice before hosting Idaho State in the last game of the season, members of the Weber State women’s soccer team showed up in their best Halloween costumes.

A group decided to dress up collectively as “The Mighty Ducks” with matching t-shirts with names of the players from the film.

“Do you like my hair? It doesn’t even look like Goldberg,” said Mackenzie Peck about her long black wig.

Peck also sported shoulder pads and hockey gloves to complete her look.

While it may seem that would have taken a great deal of preparation, things were put together on the fly.

“We went through like six different ideas and at the last second we just decided to do this,” said Peck. “Just before practice we put stuff together and tried it on.”

“To be the funniest is mostly what you aim for,” said Peck. “This year we’ve had the best one out of the four years that I’ve been here.”

From two matching inflatable suits to a group of zombies, there were plenty of entertaining costumes to go around. Before practicing, the team played different games on the field.

The most uncanny was that of freshman Aubrey Peterson, who dressed as head coach Tim Crompton, complete with beanie, sun glasses, and even a stirring stick in mouth.

“I think this is maybe our tenth season,” said Coach Crompton of the ongoing tradition. “It’s so funny because every year I think to myself, ‘Is this going to be the last year?’ They asked me last week, ‘What day are we doing Halloween practice?’ They like it.”

Given the tradition’s beginnings, it’s had a strong hold on the team, and Coach Crompton sees that it can also be good for the team.

“I think Ashley Wood came and said, “Hey, it’s going to be Halloween, and do you think we could all dress up for practice?’ And I said, ‘Alright sure,’ I don’t see why not'” Crompton recalled. “Ashley was the first of three different Woods who played for us, so it wasn’t hard for that to continue on. It’s fun for them, especially in a season like this, they take things pretty hard. It’s good for them to be able to let loose a little bit.”

After being eliminated from post-season play after heart-breaking losses over the weekend, the team can still make an impact in the tournament in their last game against Idaho State. Should the Wildcats beat the Bengals, it would knock ISU out of the tournament as well. The game will take place on Friday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. on the Wildcat Soccer Field.
