Ogden’s Tiffany wins national youth boxing title
Ogden amateur boxer Preston Tiffany, 11 years old but a veteran of more than 50 amateur bouts, was crowned the USA Boxing Junior Olympics 70-pound national champion on Friday, June 12,, scoring a decision win in the finals over Randy Canaday Jr., of St. Louis, Missouri, at the Charleston, West Virginia, Civic Center.
Tiffany, who trains out of Foley’s gym in Ogden, was one of two local boxers who won the Four Corners region (Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado) titles for USA Boxing Junior Olympics last month in Ogden. That qualified Tiffany for the national tournament.
Prior to the championship bout, Tiffany defeated — also via decision — regional champions Gavin Sills, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, and Jovaughn Stauffer, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The youngster’s family was with him, as well as his trainers, Dave Foley and JD Stevens.
Speaking on social media after his fighter’s final bout, Foley said, “Now he celebrates! He hasn’t had pizza forever.”
