Spence Eccles Ogden Community Sports Complex celebrates its grand opening
OGDEN — The Spence Eccles Ogden Community Sports Complex is officially open.
The Ogden School District welcomed guests to the grand opening of the complex Friday, May 13, and local philanthropist Spence Eccles was the ceremony’s keynote speaker.
The 10-acre complex is located at the school district’s campus, 1950 Monroe Blvd. in Ogden. Two artificial turf fields make up the key components of the complex. Both adhere to U.S. Soccer Foundation regulations, while one can also accommodate football and lacrosse.
“It’s got to be one of the most picturesque sports complexes in northern Utah,” Zac Williams, spokesman for the district, told the Standard-Examiner in February, referring to the mountains that serve as a backdrop to the fields.

The Ben Lomond High School Bag Pipers perform at the grand opening of the Spence Eccles Ogden Community Sports Complex on Friday, May 13, 2016. The multi-field complex is designed primarily for soccer but also is used for football and lacrosse.
Several sports teams in the district have been using the turf fields since January, but buildings for ticket sales, restrooms and concessions, as well as landscaping and other finishing details are now complete.
With its completion, other sports groups outside of school teams can reserve space to use the complex. Reservations can be made at the district’s website.
The George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation donated $1 million to the project, Janis Vause, executive director of the Ogden School Foundation, said in February. She said contractors donated an estimated $300,000 to $400,000 in materials in labor as well.
