South Ogden’s Max Togisala turned in a 2-under-par round of 70 on Tuesday in the second round of the US Adaptive Open golf tournament to lead the men’s seated category with one round remaining.

The tournament is being held at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina on what’s called “Course No. 6.” For the men’s seated category, the course is set up at 5,100 yards in length instead of its maximum length of 7,053 yards.

In Monday’s first round, Togisala shot 10-over-par 82 before his second-round 70 on Tuesday, the latter of which was one of just four under-par scores in the second round. He’s currently in 14th place overall along with being in first place in his category.

Togisala, who golfs with the aid of a single-seat golf cart that is essentially a large power chair with a stand-on-command mechanism, is one of seven players competing in the men’s seated category of the tournament.

There are men’s and women’s categories for arm impairment, intellectual impairment, leg impairment, multiple limb amputees, neurological impairment and short stature.

The Golf Channel will carry television coverage of the event on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 3-4 p.m.

Togisala was paralyzed from the waist down in a February 2022 skiing accident in Idaho.  Various contractors donated work and supplies to renovate the Togisala family’s house in South Ogden to make it wheelchair accessible.

When he arrived home in April 2022 after being in the hospital for more than two months, dozens of friends, community members and well-wishers lined the streets of his neighborhood to welcome him home.

Since then, Togisala’s learned to live in a wheelchair and has tried to reclaim his previously active life that paralysis sought to take.
