Tyler Bingham competes in the bull riding competition at the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Bingham stayed on for eight seconds and ended up with a score of 80.5. That was the second best score for the night and put him in fourth place for the overall rodeo as of Saturday.Box Elder County bull rider Tyler Bingham will have to wait another year to try to get back to the National Finals Rodeo after sustaining a season-ending injury at last week’s Sheridan WYO Rodeo in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Bingham, 30, announced the news on his social media pages late Tuesday night.
He was scheduled to ride in the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo on Friday night.
“In Sheridan Wyoming I took a bad shot and sustained a season ending injury I ended up breaking my C5, C6, and C7 in my neck now I’m waiting to find out what the next step towards recovery is the past few years has been a trial on my body with all the injuries but I will come back stronger than ever thanks to everyone that has stood behind me this long!” Bingham wrote.
Bingham was ranked 24th in the world bull riding standings and was in position to chase a top-15 finish, which would have booked him a spot in December’s National Finals Rodeo. He had a season-high ride of 89 at the Days of the Old West Rodeo in Delta back in mid-June. Bingham had won two rodeos this year and was co-champion at two others.
Bingham went to the NFR three straight years from 2018-20 but has had bad luck with injuries ever since. At the 2020 NFR, he was knocked unconscious when he caught a bull’s horn on the upside, then the bull stomped on Bingham’s chest, sending him to the ICU with broken ribs, bruised lungs, a concussion and more.
He suffered a season-ending injury in 2021 and missed out on the 2022 NFR completely by finishing in 36th place in the world standings.
