Utah Hockey Club defenseman Sean Durzi (5)) celebrates after his goal with teammates during the third period of an NHL hockey game against the Florida Panthers on Friday, March 28, 2025, in Sunrise, Fla.Utah’s first hockey season as the Mammoth will begin on the road.
While the NHL season gets underway on Oct. 7, according to schedules the league released Wednesday, the Mammoth will hit the road while Benson Boone plays a weekend set at the Delta Center from Oct. 9-11, reports The Salt Lake Tribune.
The Mammoth — who played as the Utah Hockey Club last season — start the 2025-26 season at Colorado on Oct. 9, go to Nashville on Oct. 11, then swing to Chicago for an Oct. 13 matchup.
Then the team debuts at home, in a newly renovated arena, on Wednesday, Oct. 15, hosting Calgary to start a four-game homestand that also brings San Jose, Boston and Colorado to Salt Lake City.
Oct. 7 gives fans an ESPN tripleheader to start the season; Utah will not be part of that like it was last season. Those games will feature Chicago against Florida, Pittsburgh versus the New York Rangers, and Colorado taking on Los Angeles.
Utah’s schedule is marked by long homestands and road trips. After the debut homestand, the Mammoth play the eight of the next nine games on the road.
Utah plays a four-game home stint Nov. 20-26. Defending champion Florida makes its one appearance in SLC on Dec. 10.
The longest homestand of the season comes Jan. 7-21 with the Mammoth playing seven straight in the Delta Center. Another six-straight home games come Jan. 31 to March 1, though that stretch is halted by a break for the 2026 Olympics from Feb. 5-24. It’s the first time the NHL has paused for the Olympics in more than a decade.
From March 20 to April 16, Utah finishes the season with nine of its final 13 games at home. What fans hope is a playoff push concludes with Winnipeg (April 14) and St. Louis (April 16) facing the Mammoth at the Delta Center.
The “original six” NHL teams will again all play in Salt Lake City this season: the Boston Bruins (Oct. 19), the Chicago Blackhawks twice (March 1 and 12), Detroit Red Wings (Feb. 4), Montreal Canadiens (Nov. 26), New York Rangers (Nov. 22), and Toronto Maple Leafs (Jan. 13).
