As one Ogden native and one Weber State University student are preparing to compete in the Milan Cortina Paralympics, the adaptive winter sports community in Weber County is readying both a competition and a celebration of their sports at Snowbasin Resort.
Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports is hosting the events Friday, March 6, at Snowbasin. The annual Adapt2Thrive Bradley Cup ski race competition pairs with a viewing party for the Paralympics opening ceremony and, the organization says, as a preview for things to come as Utah is on tap to host the 2034 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
“The Bradley Cup highlights the region’s adaptive sports community and reinforces Utah’s leadership in inclusive winter recreation,” a release from the organization reads.
Ben Nadolski, mayor of Ogden City, and Janet Wampler, mayor of Ogden Valley City, will be on hand as anywhere from 30 to 40 adaptive athletes will compete for the Bradley Cup on the same slopes that will host events in the 2034 Games.
Racing will take place from noon to 3:30 p.m. while attendees can also view the Paralympics opening ceremony from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

The celebration includes remarks from dignitaries and medals for event winners from 4-4:30 p.m.
These events will take place at the Little Cat race area and the resort’s Base Area Plaza.
Two Paralympic athletes will represent Northern Utah in Italy.
Noah Bury of Farmington, a student at Weber State, will debut at the Paralympics while competing in para alpine skiing.
Ogden’s Keith Gabel, a graduate of Ben Lomond High School, will compete in his fourth Paralympics as a para snowboarder. Gabel is a two-time medalist in snowboard cross, winning bronze in Sochi 2014 and silver in Pyeongchang 2018.
He hopes to return to the podium after taking seventh in both snowboard cross and banked slalom at Beijing 2022. Gabel is a one-time world champion, taking gold in snowboard cross in 2019.
Those are two of the 22 Utah athletes competing in Italy’s Paralympics this month. Nineteen of those will represent the United States; they are:
Alpine skiing: Matthew Brewer, Noah Bury, Ravi Drugan, Blake Eaton, Hailey Griffin, Andrew Haraghey, Jesse Keefe, Tyler McKenzie, Saylor O’Brien, Michael O’Hearn
Nordic skiing: Daniel Aravich, Sydney Peterson
Snowboard: Kate Delson, Noah Elliott, Keith Gabel, Jackie Hamwey, Brenna Huckaby, Zach Miller, Joe Pleban

NBC, USA Network and CNBC will carry live coverage of the Paralympic Games. NBC and Peacock will air a highlight package show for primetime scheduled for 6 p.m. MST Saturday, March 7, and Saturday, March 14. Peacock will have both live and on-demand streaming throughout the Games.
