Longtime Bonneville, Davis High softball coaches stepping down; prep coaching updates

Two longtime Northern Utah softball coaches stepped down after the recent season ended.
Bonneville High School head coach Brenda Hart, who was the Lakers’ head coach for 14 seasons, is moving to Roy High to pursue an administration career.
Davis head coach and athletic director Mylei Zachman, the Darts’ head coach for 17 years and a teacher at Davis for 19, is moving to Northridge High in administration.
“It’s definitely bittersweet, because I’m super excited to go into administration but I’m leaving behind a program I’ve created,” Hart said. “It’s hard to step away from something you’ve created; however, I know it”ll be in capable hands, but I know change in life is good.”
Hart taught for 13 years, mainly English and communications. Before becoming head coach, she was an assistant coach for two seasons. The Lakers won back-to-back region titles in 2010 and 2011, finished second in Region 11 this season and played for the state championship in 2014.
As the Davis coach, Zachman guided the Darts to two region titles in 2013 and 2017. Zachman was the assistant coach for two seasons before becoming head coach.
“I don’t know that I was looking to get out of teaching and maybe that’s one of my struggles is, I love teaching, I love coaching, I feel like I’m leaving while I still enjoy it. An opportunity came and I couldn’t pass it up,” Zachman said.
Davis football coach Mitch Arquette is the school’s new athletic director. Arquette said Thursday a new softball coach is yet to be named.
NEW HEAD COACHES
Since Hart is moving on from Bonneville, the Lakers have tabbed assistant coach Shelby Healy as the next head coach.
Healy was the first pitcher in Fremont High’s softball history and helped the Silverwolves to an 11-1 region record in their inaugural season. Healy’s father is Dick Scadden, a local softball coaching icon.
Weber High recently announced Jeff Barrows as its new volleyball head coach, replacing Erica Nish-Kolilis who resigned earlier this year. Barrows just completed his first season as the head volleyball coach at Clearfield.
The Warriors had a 17-13 overall record with a 6-6 mark in Region 1 last season. Weber got the No. 4 seed in the playoffs and upset top-seeded Granger in the first round of the 6A state playoffs.
Bear River announced Reggie Shaw as its new boys basketball head coach, replacing Scott Hunt who went to Roy High for the same position. Shaw most recently coached at Desert Hills High in St. George.
WEBER SOCCER TROPHY CELEBRATION
The Weber High boys soccer team is holding a community celebration Saturday, June 8, from 5-7 p.m. at the Weber High School soccer field.
The celebration, which will include food trucks, is to honor the players and coaches after the Warriors recently won the 6A state championship.
Attendees can take pictures with the players, the state championship trophy and shoot soccer balls on the nets.
