Carl Harry named head football coach at Clearfield High

By Patrick Carr - | Dec 14, 2021

Clearfield High had a head football coach vacancy for the second straight year and, for the second year in a row, the school picked an internal candidate.

Clearfield named Carl Harry as the Falcons’ new football head coach on Tuesday morning.

Harry started at Clearfield last year as a teacher and offensive coordinator for the football team after having previously coached at Davis High. He inherits a Falcons program that went 1-10 last season and has a combined record of 6-36 the past four years.

School administration informed parents by email on Tuesday morning. Harry met with the players Tuesday morning as well.

“We are excited to have Coach Harry take the lead of our football program. Coach Harry teaches health and financial literacy here at CHS and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will benefit our student athletes and our school,” the email read.

Harry is a former receiver at both the University of Utah and the NFL’s Washington Football Team. At Utah from 1986-88, he caught a total of 149 passes for 2,283 yards and 20 touchdowns, according to College Football Reference.

The 1988 season was Harry’s best with the Utes, when he hauled in 65 catches for 1,145 yards and 14 TDs. He played for Washington in the NFL in 1989 and 1992, according to Pro Football Reference.

Last month, the Standard-Examiner reported that then-Falcons head coach Don Eck was on administrative leave amid an inquiry into his conduct that initially stemmed from a harassing voicemail he left with a former football player.

Davis School District fired Eck, who was on leave for nearly a month, a day after the Standard-Examiner report was published. Eck was offensive coordinator for one season under Andre Dyson and took over as head coach for the 2021 season after Dyson left.

Harry is the second new football head coach named in northern Utah so far this offseason.

On Friday, Bear River announced its new coach, Trampis Waite, a high school football offensive coordinator in southern Oregon.

As of Tuesday, Fremont High is getting closer to picking its new football coach while Viewmont High will announce its new head coach at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Starting at $4.32/week.
