Prep football roundup: Morgan claims share of 3A North title after blasting Union

MORGAN — Tate Nelson rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two more as Morgan High football blew out Union 55-0 on Wednesday night and claimed a share of the 3A North title with Grantsville’s defeat at the hands of Juan Diego.

Beau Johnson bookended the scoring for Morgan (7-3, 4-1 3A North), kicking a 33-yard field goal to open the scoring and a 35-yard boot in the fourth quarter. Nelson found Levi Millward for a 19-yard scoring strike then scampered 7 yards for a touchdown, and the Trojans led 17-0 after the first quarter.

Nelson added a 10-yard run, Gunnar Lish returned a fumble 13 yards for a touchdown, and Will Korth took a Nelson pass 31 yards to paydirt to put Morgan up 38-0 at the half. Nelson added a 5-yard rushing TD and Alex Fisher scored on a 2-yard plunge.

Nelson rushed for 102 yards on 5 attempts, and completed 15 of 20 passes for 110 yards. Fisher rushed for 99 yards and Korth added 88 yards.

DAVIS 24, CLEARFIELD 21

CLEARFIELD — Trey Talbot scored on a 5-yard run with 3:12 left in the game to lift Davis to a region win at Clearfield.

Jackson Stevens found Talbot for passing touchdowns of 52 and 8 yards, then Gage Butler hit a 26-yard field goal to give Davis (5-5, 3-3 Region 1) a 17-14 halftime lead.

Shaydn Stoker scored on runs of 32 and 11 yards in the first half for Clearfield (1-9, 0-6). Stoker found Tanner Hittle for a 38-yard score with 7:35 left in the third quarter, putting the Falcons up 21-17.

RIDGELINE 57, BOX ELDER 27

MILLVILLE — Cooper Stevenson threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Tallin Chappell to give Box Elder a 15-14 lead with 3:58 left in the first quarter, then Ridgeline responded with five straight touchdowns.

Stevenson connected with Chappell on a 5-yard score in the fourth quarter for Box Elder (3-7). Cole Mortensen returned a Ridgeline (10-0) kickoff 81 yards for the Bees’ first score. Matt Stratton galloped 60 yards late in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

SPANISH FORK 36, WOODS CROSS 0

SPANISH FORK — Woods Cross (0-10) gave up three touchdowns in the first half to finish its first winless season since 2004 in a loss at Spanish Fork (7-2).

UINTAH 30, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 23

VERNAL — Uintah (5-5) scored on a 70-yard pass with 1:25 left in the game, then converted a two-point conversion to send Layton Christian (6-4) to defeat.
