Morgan High’s volleyball team advanced to the 3A state tournament semifinals Wednesday as the Trojans chase their 19th volleyball state championship in school history and their first since 2018.

The Trojans swept No. 15 Grand County and No. 10 Delta to advance to the semifinals. MHS had a slow start in the first set against Grand, but quickly regrouped and won 25-11, 25-20, 25-18.

Delta upset No. 7 Layton Christian in five sets to move on to the quarterfinals against Morgan, where the Trojans promptly won 25-18, 25-14, 25-15.

Morgan will face No. 14 Richfield at 11 a.m. Thursday at UVU in the state semis. Richfield upset No. 3 Carbon and No. 6 North Sanpete to get to the semis. The 9:30 a.m. semifinal features No. 1 Emery (26-1) against two-time defending 3A champ and No. 4 seed Union (17-10).

LCA later beat Grand in the sixth-place bracket and will face Manti at 8 a.m. Thursday at UVU.

In the other half of the draw, No. 8 Ogden came back from a two-set deficit to beat No. 9 Juab in the second round.

The Tigers lost the first two sets 23-25 and 12-25, then trailed late in the third set before coming back to win that one 25-23, as well as the fourth (25-22) and fifth sets (17-15).

“Won that (third set) 25-23 and the momentum just carried into the fourth. I’m proud of the way the girls just stuck together and kept playing,” Ogden coach Brad Hulse said.

OHS lost to No. 1 Emery in the quarterfinals 25-4, 25-16, 25-12. The Tigers meet No. 5 South Summit in the fifth-place bracket at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
