Prep roundup: Ogden’s Saenz, Layton’s Wolfe rack up huge days at the plate
KAMAS — Ellio Saenz batted 4 for 4 with two home runs, a triple, a double, five RBIs and four runs scored to lead Ogden High baseball to a 17-7, region-finale win Thursday at South Summit.
The victory ensured a second-place finish for Ogden (11-12, 9-5 Region 13) over South Summit (11-12, 9-5).
Sean Garceau hit 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for Ogden . Alex Howard and Ryder Rivera each hit a double and a single with Howard driving in one.
Kolton Rich hit 2 for 4 with one RBI. Boston DeCocker, Will Minkovitch and Daemian Keesler each hit a double. Keesler earned the win, striking out seven in 4 1/3 innings.
LAYTON 18, CLEARFIELD 3
CLEARFIELD — Gunner Wolfe homered, doubled twice and totaled nine RBIs as Layton scored eight in the sixth inning to trigger the run rule in a road region win.
Boston Holyoak also totaled three hits for Layton (9-10, 6-6 Region 1). Dax Maroney drove in two and scored four runs, and Eli Anderson drove in a pair of runs. Ryder Gates allowed two earned runs in six innings on the mound, striking out four and walking one.
Jackson Yamashita hit 2 for 3 and scored two runs for Clearfield (5-11, 2-7). Devan Harmer, Porter Benton and Cayden Wilson each drove in a run.
ROY 8, CYPRUS 3
MAGNA — Roy scored four runs in the fourth inning to take control of a win at Cyprus (6-13, 5-7 Region 2).
Justin Miller batted 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for Roy (7-9, 5-4). Teyo Gill and Ryder Williams also went 2 for 4, with Gill driving in one. Tyler Clark hit a three-run double. Williams pitched a complete game in the win.
WOODS CROSS 11, BONNEVILLE 6
WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville led 5-1 early, but Woods Cross took the lead in the fourth and scored four insurance runs in the sixth.
Blake Stanger hit a three-run home run and a two-run dinger to lead Woods Cross (11-4, 6-0 Region 5). Dax Weierman hit a two-run bomb. Micah Mortensen batted 2 for 4 with a double while Taylor Ayala and Max Moffat each added a double.
Kole Minnoch batted 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI for Bonneville (3-10, 0-6). Enrique Garcia went 2 for 4 and drove in one. Andrew Hansen hit a three-run double and Kole Story hit an RBI double.
NORTHRIDGE 8, BOUNTIFUL 5
BOUNTIFUL — Northridge scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 7-3 lead in a region win at Bountiful.
Landon Crisler batted 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs for Northridge (6-8, 1-5 Region 5). Jordan Rhoades went 2 for 3. Jace Olsen drove in two and Jory Durrant had one RBI. Rhoades pitched 5 2/3 inning with six strikeouts and six walks.
Dallin Maxwell batted 2 for 2 with two walks and two RBIs for Bountiful (11-5, 5-1). Drew Bowles went 2 for 4 and drove in two. Truman Duryea hit a double.
BOX ELDER 6, VIEWMONT 2
BRIGHAM CITY — Box Elder avoided a sweep and handed Viewmont its first region loss.
Ryan Griffin pitched a complete game for Box Elder (6-10, 1-5 Region 5), allowing four hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Griffin also drove in three runs and hit a double. Kade Hall hit 3 for 3 and KJ Argyle hit 2 for 3.
Cal Miller doubled and drove in a run for Viewmont (9-4, 5-1) and Luke Jacobs scored two runs.
GREEN CANYON 6, BEAR RIVER 4
NORTH LOGAN — Bear River suffered its first region loss of the season.
Garrison Marble hit 2 for 3 with a triple for Bear River (15-4, 8-1 Region 11). Hunter Smoot, Alec Callister and Ashton Harrow each collected two hits.
GRANTSVILLE 7, MORGAN 2
GRANTSVILLE — Morgan fell behind 4-0 after the first inning in a region loss at Grantsville (18-5, 15-0 Region 13).
Gage Adams batted 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs for Morgan (9-11, 7-8 Region 13). Ashton Lindley hit 2 for 3. Brigham Spens and Tryker Jones each got a hit with Spens driving in one.
DAVIS 10, FARMINGTON 6
FARMINGTON — On Wednesday, Trey Talbot hit 4 for 5 with two RBIs and a double to lead Davis past Farmington (10-7, 6-5 Region 1).
Tyson Elkins doubled and drove in three for Davis (9-8, 7-4). Carter Compton picked up the win, pitching 3 2/3 innings and allowing one run. Easton Baggett hit 2 for 2 with two walks and Wally Grant hit 2 for 4.
Farmington didn’t report stats.

KAYSVILLE — Fremont plated three runners in the top of the fourth inning to break a 3-3 tie in a region win at Davis.
Keysha McKean batted 3 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs for Fremont (10-2, 7-1 Region 1). Savannah Palmatier went 3 for 4 with one RBI and three runs scored. Kendyl Skeen hit a triple and a double and drove in one. Audrey Cooper picked up the win with seven hits and three strikeouts in four innings.
Larkyn Robinson batted 2 for 3 with one RBI for Davis (7-10, 1-7). Laney Tuft and Aubrey Noriega each hit a double, with Noriega driving in one. Alix Thaxton added an RBI.
ROY 9, SYRACUSE 8
SYRACUSE — Roy scored a run in the seventh inning to win a non-region game at Syracuse.
Olivia Bruch hit 3 for 5 with two doubles for Roy (5-13), which trailed 8-6 going to the sixth inning. Carsyn Byard hit 3 for 5 and Alissa Green had three RBIs. Bruch got the win in the circle.
Brielle Milius hit 3 for 4 with two RBIs for Syracuse (4-13). Jaidyn Franco hit 2 for 3 with two doubles. Kenlie Cowdin hit a double and drove in two. Mikela Millard hit 2 for 3 with an RBI.
BOX ELDER 15, NORTHRIDGE 0
LAYTON — Tegan Mecham tossed a three-inning perfect game as Box Elder beat Northridge (7-7, 1-5 Region 5) to climb into second place in Region 5.
Mecham hit 2 for 4 with four RBIs, a homer and a double for Box Elder (12-6, 4-1). Maygen-Raye Kaleikini hit 2 for 3 with four RBIs and a homer. Malena Benson homered, doubled and drove in three.
FARMINGTON 11, LAYTON 2
FARMINGTON — Farmington scored three runs in the bottom of the 4th to take a 6-3 lead in a region win over Layton.
Elle Mortensen batted 3 for 4 with a triple and one RBI for Farmington (9-5, 7-1 Region 1). Delaney Baker and Courtney Christiansen each had one hit and one RBI. Baker pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts and eight hits.
Brenley Boydston batted 2 for 3 and scored both Layton (7-6, 4-4) runs. Joslyn Purcell hit an RBI double and Lauren Hansen drove in one.
VIEWMONT 13, WOODS CROSS 9
WOODS CROSS — Viewmont scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 8-6 lead in a region win at Woods Cross.
Molly Roberts batted 4 for 5 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored for Viewmont (11-6, 3-3 Region 5). Kennedy Embrey went 3 for 4 with a double and drove in two. Lily Hawker batted 2 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Sydni Steed hit a two-run double. Grace Nielson earned the win in relief.
Kenna Cowley batted 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs for Woods Cross (6-11, 0-6). Ali Ebberts hit 3 for 4 with one RBI. Kate Massey and Natalie Wall each batted 2 for 4.
