Prep basketball roundup: Roy boys even up region record; Bountiful girls clinch share of region title
ROY — Roy High boys basketball outscored Granger 20-2 in the first quarter on the way to a 62-44 home win Friday night to even up its region record.
Dominic Anguiano led Roy (8-13, 5-5 Region 2) with 18 points and five rebounds.
Spencer Bessinger scored nine points, Carson Hamer added eight points, Elijah Sowards scored six points with four rebounds and Jalen Rose added six points for the Royals.
FREMONT 70, CLEARFIELD 42
PLAIN CITY — Logan Penland hit five 3-pointers for his 15 points to lead Fremont past Clearfield.
Hunter Hansen scored 14 for Fremont (11-8, 5-5 Region 1) and David Calvert added 12, with both hitting two treys. Braden Flinders tallied 11 points.
Austin Mitchell led Clearfield (4-15, 3-7) with nine points. Peyton Kotter and Lincoln Church each scored eight.
LAYTON 68, WEBER 63
LAYTON — Layton led 37-28 at the half and turned back a Weber second-half comeback bid for a region win.
Connor Wilson led Layton (7-13, 4-7 Region 1) with 15 points. KJ Miller netted 14 on four 3-pointers. Mitch Johnson and Brighton Palmer each scored 11.
Stryker Rashid scored a game-high 16 points for Weber (9-12, 5-6) with two 3-pointers. Cannon DeVries added 12 points and Griffyn Doughty scored 11.
VIEWMONT 67, BONNEVILLE 51
BOUNTIFUL — Viewmont outscored Bonneville 25-16 in the fourth quarter to shut down the Lakers’ comeback attempt.
Radek Pulsipher led Viewmont (9-12, 4-4 Region 5) with 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Caden Lauder scored 16 points with nine rebounds and a 7-of-7 mark at the foul line and Zach Robison added 13 points. The Vikings went 17 of 19 at the free-throw line and shot 52.4% from the field.
Bo Dixon led Bonneville (15-4, 6-2) with 15 points and Jake Williams had 12 points. Carson Jones scored eight points with eight rebounds. The Lakers shot 35.1% from the field and 3 of 5 at the foul line.
MORGAN 53, OGDEN 42
MORGAN — Nixan Ordyna scored 22 points with four 3-pointers in a decisive home win against Ogden.
Alex Fisher added 13 points for Morgan (14-7, 4-6 Region 13).
Alex Howard led Ogden (9-12, 3-7) with 15 points. Landen Smith and Khol Gill each scored eight points.
LAYTON CHRISTIAN 62, GRANTSVILLE 61
LAYTON — Elias Olander made a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left that served as the winning basket to ensure Layton Christian finished Region 13 with a perfect 10-0 mark.
Tyrese Lacey led Layton Christian (16-7, 10-0 Region 13) with 17 points, shooting 4 of 4 at the foul line. Timmie Olubisi scored 10 points and Sammy Ishimwe added nine.
BOX ELDER 55, BOUNTIFUL 46
BRIGHAM CITY — Bountiful led 33-31 after three quarters, then Box Elder outscored the Redhawks 24-13 in the final frame for a region win.
Jackson McKee led Box Elder (13-7, 5-3 Region 5) with 18 points; 11 in the fourth quarter. Cole Mortensen netted 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the foul line. Cooper Stevenson added 14 points with two 3-pointers.
Trevin Ostler paced Bountiful (6-14, 1-7) with 18 points and Sam Stevenson scored 12.
WOODS CROSS 56, NORTHRIDGE 52
LAYTON — Woods Cross held on late to beat Northridge and move into a tie for first place in Region 5 with Bonneville with two games left in the regular season.
Jaxon Smith scored 22 points and shot 8-of-9 at the foul line to lead Woods Cross (13-7, 6-2 Region 5). Mason Bendinger and Nic Hogan scored 11 points.
Sam Sivulich led all scorers with 26 points for Northridge (9-12, 2-6 Region 5). Landon Woll added nine points.
RIDGELINE 71, BEAR RIVER 56
GARLAND — Bear River fell behind 17-5 after one quarter and could not recover in a home loss to Ridgeline (17-5, 9-1 Region 11).
Caleb Barfuss led Bear River (6-15, 2-8 Region 11) with 15 points and Alec Callister added 10, with each making two 3-pointers. Kyver Jensen and Gehrig Marble scored nine points apiece.

BRIGHAM CITY — Bountiful clinched a share of the Region 5 title with a win at Box Elder.
Taylor Harvey scored 20 points to lead Bountiful (16-3, 8-0 Region 5). Riley Johnson and Lizzy McConkie each scored 18 points and Hayley Smith added nine.
Ashlyn Reeder scored 11 points to pace Box Elder (11-9, 4-4). Kennadee Vaughn tallied eight points and Tegan Mecham added seven.
FREMONT 68, CLEARFIELD 18
CLEARFIELD — Fremont burst to a 43-4 halftime lead and remained unbeaten in Region 1.
Timea Gardiner scored 21 points, all in the first three quarters, to lead Fremont (19-2, 10-0 Region 1). Mia Austin scored 17 points, all in the first half, with five 3-pointers. Ashley Oliver added seven points.
Miranda Mansfield scored seven points, and grabbed four rebounds and three steals, for Clearfield (0-19, 0-10). Savannah Anderton totaled eight rebounds.
LAYTON 54, WEBER 49 (OT)
PLEASANT VIEW — In a game that featured a one-point margin after each of the first three quarters, Layton outscored Weber 16-15 in the fourth quarter to force overtime and 9-4 in extra time to pick up a region road win.
Charly Stevens scored a game-high 16 points for Layton (8-12, 4-7 Region 1). Jayden Seegmiller tallied 11 points while Lauryn Hall and Avery Potter each added seven.
Sunee Shaw and Allie Clark each scored 11 points to lead Weber (5-15, 2-9). Rylie Laughter added 10.
NORTHRIDGE 26, WOODS CROSS 17
LAYTON — Northridge outscored Woods Cross 14-9 in the fourth quarter to win a low-scoring game and break a six-game losing streak.
Madison Hosino led Northridge (8-11, 2-6 Region 5) with eight points, six coming in the fourth quarter on two 3-pointers. Kate Tueller scored five of her seven points in the fourth quarter and Kaylee Hess added five points for the Knights.
Kenna Cowley led Woods Cross (11-8, 3-5) with seven points and Georgia Hatton scored six.
GRANGER 42, ROY 30
ROY — Granger’s 18-8 advantage in the first quarter was all the difference to win at Roy.
Sha’Kyra Joiner led Roy (6-14, 2-8 Region 2) with 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Nicole Williams totaled nine points and 13 rebounds. Sienna Bodily added seven rebounds.
