Prep basketball roundup: Oliverson 3 at buzzer gives Ogden boys win at South Summit

KAMAS -- Jace Oliverson hit a 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer to give Ogden High boys basketball a dramatic, 61-58 overtime win at South Summit on Friday night.

Oliverson led the Tigers (7-6, 1-1 Region 13) with 15 points on five 3-pointers.

Alex Howard, who assisted the game-winning shot, scored 14 points for Ogden. Kohl Gil scored 14 points for the Tigers, Landen Smith had nine and Ozzy Norton added eight.

DAVIS 49, WEBER 45

KAYSVILLE -- Weber led 23-20 at the half, but Davis controlled the second half to stay unbeaten in region play.

Rex Sunderland led all scorers with 15 points for Davis (15-0, 4-0 Region 1). Colby Sims had 10 points with two 3-pointers, seven rebounds and four assists. Maxwell Painter also scored 10 points..

Cannon DeVries and Griffyn Doughty each scored 13 points for Weber (7-7, 3-1). Stockton Short pulled down seven rebounds and DeVries dished four assists.

CLEARFIELD 38, SYRACUSE 35

CLEARFIELD -- Syracuse led 6-2 after one quarter, but Clearfield won the fourth quarter 12-8 for the win.

Dawson Gardner led all scorers with 13 points for Clearfield (3-9, 2-1 Region 1). Peyton Kotter scored eight points while Austin Mitchell and Lincoln Church each added seven.

Brevin Hamblin led Syracuse (3-9, 0-3) with nine points. Brock Williams, Kaden Ericksen and Carter Semrow each scored eight points.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Layton at Fremont was rescheduled to Saturday, Jan. 22, due to COVID-19 issues at Layton.

Bountiful at Viewmont was rescheduled to Tuesday, Feb. 1, due to COVID-19 issues at Viewmont.

Hunter at Roy was rescheduled to Wednesday, Feb. 9. The game was postponed due to Thursday's shooting in West Valley City that resulted in the death of two Hunter High students, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

American Prep-West Valley at St. Joseph has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 18, due to COVID-19 issues at St. Joseph. SJC's upcoming game on Saturday, Jan. 15, against American Heritage was also postponed, as was Tuesday, Jan. 18's previously scheduled game against Waterford.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

FREMONT 88, LAYTON 44

LAYTON -- Maggie Mendleson scored 27 points to help Fremont double up Layton.

Timea Gardner added 19 points with two 3-pointers for Fremont (12-2, 3-0 Region 1). Mia Austin hit three treys on her way to 17 points.

Lauryn Hall led Layton (5-8, 1-3) with 16 points on four 3-pointers. Jayden Seegmiller scored 14 points.

DAVIS 42, WEBER 20

PLEASANT VIEW -- Davis held Weber to 10 points in each half in a region road win.

Kendra Kitchen scored a game-high 11 points for Davis (12-1, 4-0 Region 1). Taylor Leavitt tallied 10 points while Sierra Passey and Kylee Mabry each netted eight.

Katelynn Butler led Weber (4-9, 1-3) with 10 points and Jazmyn Bennett added five.

SYRACUSE 58, CLEARFIELD 27

SYRACUSE -- Syracuse led 29-9 at the half in a region win over Clearfield.

Whitney Sorenson led Syracuse (11-2, 2-1 Region 1) with 10 points. Avery Sanders scored nine and Gracie Sorenson added seven.

Miranda Mansfield led all scorers with 14 points for Clearfield (0-12, 0-3). Brooklyn Hawks scored eight points.
