Prep basketball roundup: Box Elder girls outlast Bonneville in 2 overtimes

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Box Elder’s Ashlyn Wight made a buzzer-beating 3-pointer that bounced three times on the rim at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime, and the Bees eventually beat Bonneville after two extra periods, 80-74, in a girls basketball matchup Tuesday night.

Kamryn Peterson led Box Elder (8-5, 1-0 Region 5) with 29 points, hitting five 3-pointers and shooting 8 for 10 at the free-throw line. Wight scored 24 points, 21 of which came after halftime, with four 3s. Box Elder trailed 29-23 at halftime and 44-40 after three quarters.

Courtnie Porter led Bonneville (4-11, 0-2) with 27 points. Libby Jensen hit three 3s and scored 12 points. Sara Stackaruk added 11 points.

LAYTON 46, WEBER 36

LAYTON — After going into halftime tied, Layton outscored Weber 29-19 in the second half for a region win.

Charly Stevens scored a game-high 14 points for Layton (6-8, 2-3 Region 1). Jayden Seegmiller scored 13 points and Lauryn Hall added nine.

Katelynn Butler led Weber (4-10, 1-4) with 11 points and two 3-pointers. Hadley Howell and Rylie Laughter each scored seven points.

FREMONT 61, CLEARFIELD 23

PLAIN CITY — Fremont ran to a 24-2 lead after one quarter in a region win over Clearfield.

Mia Austin led all scorers with 18 points for Fremont (13-2, 4-0 Region 1). Maggie Mendelson tallied 15 points and Sierra Eddie added nine.

Kallee Sparks and Xiyah Yarbrough each scored six points for Clearfield (0-13, 0-4).

BOUNTIFUL 44, WOODS CROSS 23

WOODS CROSS — Bountiful led 22-7 at the half in a region-opening win at Woods Cross.

Claire Cook paced Bountiful (9-3, 1-0 Region 5) with 10 points. Abi Orme hit three 3-pointers for nine points and Riley Johnson added eight points.

Sofia Mokofisi led all scorers with 11 points for Woods Cross (8-4, 0-1). Arta Bytyqi scored five.

VIEWMONT 39, NORTHRIDGE 36

LAYTON — Viewmont outscored Northridge 9-6 in the fourth quarter to win.

Emma Mulitalo and Kristina Gunnell led Viewmont (4-10, 1-0 Region 5) with nine points each. Gunnell hit three 3-pointers and Grace Mackay scored seven points.

Madison Hosino scored 14 points for Northridge (7-6, 1-1) and led all scorers. Kaylee Hess added eight points.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 70, SOUTH SUMMIT 39

KAMAS — Layton Christian led by 10 at halftime, then outscored South Summit 33-12 after the break to stay unbeaten in region play.

Bianca Silva led LCA (10-3, 2-0 Region 13) with 26 points. Ruzgar Boyle scored 17 and Mine Iscen added 10.

GRANTSVILLE 50, OGDEN 48

OGDEN — Ogden went toe to toe the whole game against the No. 3-ranked RPI team in 3A, but Grantsville’s McKenzie Allen made two free throws in the final seconds to end the Tigers’ upset bid.

Ashley Christensen led Ogden (4-11, 0-3 Region 13) with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including a 5-of-6 mark from 3-point range. Christensen had five steals.

Lucy Ballard shot 5 for 8 and scored 10 points with eight rebounds and three blocks. Grace Pulley had six points with 10 rebounds.

CYPRUS 45, ROY 35

ROY — Cyprus (6-5, 2-0 Region 2) held Roy to 14 first-half points and the Royals took a home loss.

Sha’Kyra Joiner led Roy (4-9, 0-3) with 16 points. Nicole Williams grabbed nine rebounds.

SKY VIEW 52, BEAR RIVER 36

GARLAND — Bear River trailed 46-23 after three quarters in a home loss to Sky View (10-6, 2-1 Region 11).

Kate Dahle led Bear River (3-11, 0-3) with 10 points. Lexie Westmoreland and Gracie Riley each scored nine.

WEBER 91, LAYTON 83

PLEASANT VIEW — Layton outscored Weber 31-28 in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors prevailed in the region contest.

Stockton Short and Griffyn Doughty each scored 22 points and hit two 3-pointers for Weber (8-7, 4-1 Region 1). Hunter Schenck and Tukker Higgs each scored 14, with Higgs hitting four treys. The Warriors shot 42 free throws on the night, converting 32. Doughty went 10 for 10 and Schenck hit 7 of 8 from the charity stripe.

Mitch Johnson hit five treys on his way to 21 points for Layton (3-10, 0-4). Brighton Palmer scored 19 points. KJ Miller tallied 14 while Mekhi Martin and Connor Wilson each scored 12.

SYRACUSE 68, FARMINGTON 54

SYRACUSE — Brandon Clark scored 25 points to lead Syracuse past Farmington for the Titans’ first region win.

Brock Williams and Carter Semrow each netted 12 points for Syracuse (4-9, 1-3 Region 1). Clark hit two 3-pointers and made all nine of his free throws.

Collin Chandler led all scorers with 26 points for Farmington (7-7, 2-2). Paul Beattie and Tyler Larson each scored nine points.

FREMONT 60, CLEARFIELD 46

CLEARFIELD — Hunter Hansen broke out for 28 points, with 12 in the first quarter, and made five 3-pointers as Fremont won on the road.

David Calvert scored 13 points for Fremont (6-5, 1-2 Region 1).

Dawson Gardner led Clearfield (3-10, 2-2) with 15 points.

CYPRUS 64, ROY 49

ROY — Roy trailed 23-20 at halftime and Cyprus took control in the second half.

Spencer Bessinger shot 4 for 8 from 3-point range and ended with a team-high 13 points to go with seven rebounds for Roy (4-10, 1-2 Region 2). Elijah Sowards added 11 points and nine rebounds.
