Prep roundup: Box Elder boys soccer wins 5A play-in game

BRIGHAM CITY — Jaxson Palmer kept a clean sheet as No. 20 Box Elder High boys soccer blanked No. 29 Cedar Valley (4-13) in a 5A play-in game.
Noah Miller scored in the first half and Nate Reynolds netted in the second for Box Elder (9-8). Jackson Thurgood assisted both goals.
The Bees will travel Saturday to face No. 13 Salem Hills at 1 p.m.

BEAR RIVER 12, SKY VIEW 2
GARLAND — No. 5 Bear River scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to grab a run-rule win over No. 12 Sky View (3-22) in Game 1 of a 4A first round best-of-three series.
Ashton Harrow earned the win in 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and hit a three-run home run for Bear River (21-5). Hunter Harrow, Ryker Jeppsen and Garrison Marble each hit a triple. Ethan Potter drove in two.
The Bears will host Sky View for the second game at 1 p.m. Friday.
SOFTBALL
GRAND COUNTY 15, MORGAN 3
SPANISH FORK — No. 7 Morgan’s season ended with a 3A one-loss bracket defeat at the hands of No. 9 Grand County (11-13).
Haylee Pickrell hit a three-run homer for the Trojans’ only runs. Morgan ends the year with a 19-10 record.
GIRLS GOLF
3A CHAMPIONSHIP
TOOELE — Morgan placed second with a 732 and Ogden shot 877 for 10th place in the 3A Championship at Oquirrh Hills Golf Course.
Morgan’s Ellie DeMond tied for third with a 170 while fellow Trojans Jailee Snow placed eighth with a 179 and Kia Christiansen shot 182 for ninth. Aya Obayashi tied for 28th with a 204 to lead Ogden.
Richfield finished one-two-three to take the team title, with Gwen Stubbs shooting 159 for the individual title.
4A CHAMPIONSHIP
ST. GEORGE — Bear River shot a 842 and finished eighth in the 4A Championship at Sunbrook Golf Course.
Tylee Bennett tied for 14th with a 189 for Bear River and Jessa Theurer tied for 35th with a 215.
Dixie’s Annabelle Millard took Medalist honors with a 162. Pine View shot 702 to win the team championship.
BOYS TENNIS
6A STATE TOURNAMENT
Four Region 1 singles players and two doubles teams advanced to the semifinals of the 6A boys tennis state tournament after winning two matches on Thursday.
At No. 1 singles, Farmington’s Josh Jones will take on Bingham’s Kingsley Hoang in Saturday’s semifinals at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.
Also advancing to Saturday’s semis are Fremont sophomore Boston McFarland (No. 2 singles), Farmington freshman Justin Steed (No. 2 singles), Weber sophomore Gabriel Olsen (No. 3 singles), the No. 1 doubles team of Spencer Ostermiller and Nathaniel Bullard from Farmington, and the No. 2 doubles team of Kayden Smith and Bridger Hunt from Layton.
