Prep football roundup: Northridge’s Tillman rushes for 4 TDs; Roy clobbers Hunter

MURRAY — For the second week in a row, running back AJ Tillman rushed for four touchdowns as Northridge High football (2-2) won big, defeating Cottonwood 48-17 on Friday.

Tillman ran for scores of 9, 12, 26 and 27 yards.

The Knights trailed 10-7 at halftime. Malakai Williams ran for a touchdown and threw a 12-yard TD pass to Estyn Lumpkins. Jaxon Fresques ran for a 45-yard touchdown late in the game.

ROY 41, HUNTER 6

ROY — Dru Gardner threw a touchdown pass to DaeQwan Snider, and each player also scored a rushing touchdown, as Roy opened region play by crushing Hunter.

Gardner got Roy (3-1, 1-0 Region 2) on the board at the 10:58 mark of the first quarter on a 13-yard run. Jacob Viers returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown, then Gardner found Snider for a 20-yard scoring strike to put the Royals up 21-0 at the half.

Jaydan Hurt scored on a 1-yard plunge to put Roy up 28-6 late in the third. Aidan Hart kicked field goals of 39 and 22 yards. Snider put the Royals up 38-6 with a 39-yard run in the fourth.

Roy ran for 194 yards on 6.9 yards per carry, led by Hurt totaling 71 yards on six carries and Snider’s 67 yards on seven carries.

SYRACUSE 45, SALEM HILLS 14

SALEM — Jake Hopkins passed for two touchdowns and Kobe Bennett rushed for two scores as Syracuse scored 31 unanswered points after halftime to win at Salem Hills.

Hopkins tossed scoring strikes of 6 yards to Dylan Croxford and 53 yards to DJ Mayes for Syracuse (2-2). Bennett scored on runs of 2 and 25 yards.

Daxton Faddis returned a blocked punt 15 yards for a score. Rhett Thompson kicked a 35-yard field goal. Ethan Larkin capped the scoring on a 9-yard run with 3:55 left in the game.

MORGAN 24, GREEN CANYON 0

NORTH LOGAN — Nick Despain threw two touchdown passes to keep Morgan (4-0) unbeaten.

Despain threw a 30-yard score to Lincoln Gilson and a 2-yard TD to Gavin Turner.

Turner kicked a 32-yard field goal and went 3 for 3 on extra points. Gunnar Lish ran for a 7-yard TD late in the fourth quarter.

Despain finished 18 of 27 for 225 yards. Gilson totaled 113 receiving yards on seven catches.

RICHFIELD 35, OGDEN 7

OGDEN — Chino Furniss found Adam Wilson for a 28-yard touchdown pass with 2:18 left in the game as Ogden (1-2) lost at home to Richfield.

SOUTH SUMMIT 37, BEN LOMOND 3

OGDEN — Omar Murillo kicked a field goal with 1:31 left in the game for the only Ben Lomond (2-2) points in a home loss to South Summit.

BOUNTIFUL 16, SKYLINE 14

SALT LAKE CITY — Owen Geilman threw two touchdown passes in the first half as Bountiful won a low-scoring affair at Skyline.

Geilman connected with Faletau Satuala for a 26-yard scoring strike to give Bountiful (2-2) a 6-0 lead with 10:32 left in the second quarter. Geilman tossed a 2-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Mertz to give the RedHawks a 13-0 lead at the half.

Ben Smith booted a 49-yard field goal with 2:04 left in the game to give Bountiful a 16-7 lead.

PROVO 35, VIEWMONT 28

PROVO — Provo’s Drew Deucher returned an interception for a touchdown with 16 seconds left to complete a second-half comeback and hand Viewmont (3-1) its first loss.

The Vikings led 28-18 at the half but gave up 17 unanswered points after the break.

Luke Jacobs ran for 135 yards and two touchdowns, and threw for 196 yards with two scores. He also two interceptions. Scott Noel had five catches for 102 yards and two TDs.

SYRACUSE WINS 4

EVANSTON, Wyo. — Syracuse went 4-0 in the first day of the Border Wars Tournament hosted by Evanston High School.

In their first game, the Titans (6-3) swept Rock Springs (WY) 2-0 by scores of 25-15, 25-11. Meredith Beickel led with eight kills. Kambree Rodriguez had six digs and four aces. Kallie Johansen served four aces and Brilyn Jensen dished out 15 assists.

Syracuse beat Lyman (WY) 2-0: 25-23, 25-14. Tehana Mo’o had 13 kills. Kambree Rodriguez served two aces. Brilyn Jensen tallied 23 assists, Sariah Nanney three blocks and Mikelle Neilson 13 digs.

In their third game, The Titans dropped their only set of the day, beating Mountain View (WY) 2-1. Set scores were 17-25, 25-17, 17-16. Kallie Johansen led with nine kills and two blocks. Brilyn Jensen had two blocks, 10 digs and 14 assists.

Syracuse capped its day with a sweep of Star Valley (WY) by scores of 25-12, 25-20. Kallie Johansen tallied nine kills and two aces. Tehana Mo’o had two aces and two blocks. Meredith Beickel and Kambree Rodriguez each totaled eight digs. Brilyn Jensen dished out 16 assists.

BASEBALL

UTAH MILITARY def. ROCKWELL

OGDEN — Utah Military (6-1, 6-1 2A) swept Rockwell in a doubleheader. Game scores were 12-11 and 20-9.

In the first game, Utah Military scored five runs in the fourth inning, then plated four more in the bottom of the fifth for a walk-off win over Rockwell Academy.

Leadoff hitter Mason Padilla batted 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Benjamin Lloyd went 2 for 3 with a triple and drove in four. Kian Myers, Anders Pond and Zander Gonzales each had two hits.

In the nightcap, UMA spotted Rockwell a 3-0 lead after a half-inning, then took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the first.

Douglas McFarland batted 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Anders Pond went 2 for 3 with a home run and drove in three. Lloyd Andersen drove in three with two doubles. Kian Myers and Zander Gonzales each hit a double.
