Ben Lomond's Jake East (58) battles Union's Will Gamble (14) in a 3A first-round game Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, in Ogden.

Wednesday brought the first of the three-day early signing period for high school seniors to sign with Division I football programs and five Northern Utah players signed to continue their football careers on scholarship.

Northridge High linebacker Zach Smith is staying the closest to home after signing with Weber State.

Ben Lomond defensive lineman Jake East inked a National Letter of Intent to play at Idaho State. He’ll be joined by BL receiver Davian Muñoz, who will be with the Bengals as a walk-on player.

Morgan offensive lineman Luke Olson also signed to play with Idaho State.

Syracuse offensive lineman Ben Acker-Oatis lined up a scholarship to play at Utah Tech.

Skyridge quarterback Jackson Stevens, who played at Davis High before his senior year, signed to play at Southern Utah.

Additionally, Ben Lomond running back Charlie Thornblad will suit up for the Ogden Jets post-prep football program, according to BL head coach Lyndon Johnson.

The three-day early period is the first opportunity for 2024 graduates. The regular signing period for the 2024 football class begins Feb. 7, 2024.

WSU’S REID GETS HULA BOWL INVITE

Weber State senior linebacker Winston Reid has received an invite to the Hula Bowl.

The Hula Bowl is a showcase game for graduating seniors. After a week of festivities in Orlando, Florida, invited players will practice and play a game in front of scouts for the NFL, XFL and CFL.

The Hula Bowl was established in 1947 and, in 1960, it took on the college All-Star format that is still played today. It was held in Hawaii until 2022, when it was moved to Florida.
