Prep basketball roundup: Syracuse girls come back to win pivotal region game at Farmington

FARMINGTON -- Avery Sanders scored 10 points to lead Syracuse High girls basketball to a 37-36, comeback win at Farmington on Tuesday.

Cortnie Barker and Ariah Hacker scored eight points each for Syracuse (9-5, 3-1 Region 1), which outscored Farmington 26-18 in the second half.

Marissa Marchant led the Phoenix (7-6, 1-3) with 13 points and Whitney Avei scored seven.

WEBER 54, LAYTON 52

LAYTON -- Weber led 44-37 after three quarters and held off a Layton charge in the final frame to win its first Region 1 game of the season.

Katelynn Butler scored a game-high 19 points with four 3-pointers for Weber (4-10, 1-4 Region 1). Katelyn Poulsen added nine points on three treys.

Avery Potter led Layton (1-12, 0-5) with 16 points and four 3-pointers. Brenley Boydston added 15 points and two triples.

WEST 67, ROY 38

SALT LAKE CITY -- Jerzee Hart scored 17 points with five 3-pointers as Roy dropped a lopsided affair at West.

Sienna Bodily and Sienna Sanchez each scored six points for Roy (3-11, 3-2 Region 2), combining for three 3-pointers.

BOUNTIFUL 56, BONNEVILLE 19

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- Lizzy McConkie scored a game-high 16 points to lead Bountiful to a region win at Bonneville.

Taylor Harvey added 14 points for Bountiful (11-1, 2-0 Region 5). Both Harvey and McConkie made three 3-pointers.

Libby Jensen led Bonneville (4-8, 0-2) with eight points and two 3-pointers. Emmaline DeGroot scored four points.

WOODS CROSS 51, BOX ELDER 46

WOODS CROSS -- Woods Cross led the whole game in a win over Box Elder.

Georgia Hatton shot 10 for 11 at the foul line and led Woods Cross (10-3, 1-1 Region 5) with 16 points. The Wildcats shot 21 for 27 at the stripe as a team.

Ashlyn Wight led Box Elder (6-8, 0-2) with 14 points and Kaydence Barber scored 13. The Bees shot 22 for 29 at the foul line.

FREMONT 52, CLEARFIELD 40

PLAIN CITY -- Fremont outscored Clearfield 18-3 in the second quarter to take control in a region win that keeps the Silverwolves atop the Region 1 standings.

Hunter Hansen led all scorers with 18 points -- all in the first half -- for Fremont (9-5, 4-0 Region 1). Treyden Hoggan hit three 3-pointers for nine points and Braden Flinders added eight.

Austin Mitchell led Clearfield (6-7, 0-4) with 14 points. Lincoln Church scored 11 points with two 3-pointers.

FARMINGTON 64, SYRACUSE 59

FARMINGTON -- Farmington led 31-30 at the half in a tight region win over Syracuse.

Farmington (9-5, 1-3 Region 1) did not report stats.

Carter Semrow led Syracuse (9-4, 2-2 Region 1) with 18 points. Brevin Hamblin posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kaden Ericksen added 14 points.

ROY 63, WEST 48

SALT LAKE CITY -- Four Roy players scored in double figures in a road win. Elijah Sowards led Roy (8-8, 3-2 Region 2) with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Bronson Belnap shot 7 for 11 and scored 16 points for Roy. Jayden Spencer scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Beau Belnap added 10 points.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 59, JUDGE MEMORIAL 55

LAYTON -- Layton Christian outscored Judge Memorial 21-15 in the fourth quarter for a comeback win on Monday.

Otavio Armani led Layton Christian (13-7) with 14 points and two 3-pointers. Tyrese Lacy tallied 13 points and Isaac Cubrero scored eight.

AMERICAN HERITAGE 74, BEN LOMOND 37

LAYTON -- Ben Lomond was held to 14 points in the second half in a loss to American Heritage on Monday.

Davian Muñoz led Ben Lomond (1-12) with 10 points. Jaxon Watson scored nine points on three 3-pointers and Hunter Christensen added six points. Manase Tuatagaloa and Jake East each had four rebounds.
