BOUNTIFUL — Tied 5-5 in extra innings, Box Elder High softball scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning to beat Bountiful 11-6 on Thursday afternoon and pull even with the Redhawks (16-3, 8-1 Region 5) for first place in Region 5 with one regular-season game left.

Malena Benson batted 4 for 5 with six RBIs, a homer and a double for Box Elder (17-6, 8-1)

Kellie Malan pitched 6 1/3 innings of relief, allowing no runs on five hits with four strikeouts after Bountiful took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the second. Justy Pritchard batted 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Sydney Stokes hit 2 for 4.

BONNEVILLE 3, NORTHRIDGE 2

LAYTON — Emmaline DeGroot pitched a complete game, struck out five batters and drove in two runs as Bonneville outlasted Northridge in region play.

Morgan Rich, Kaylee McAfee and Stocktyn Stevenson batted 2 for 3 for Bonneville (7-7, 5-4 Region 5).

Amaya Porter pitched a complete game for Northridge (7-11, 4-5) and gave up one earned run with five strikeouts while batting 2 for 4. Kaydence Chournos hit 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

WEBER 5, LAYTON 0

LAYTON — Kendall Strasburg pitched a one-hit shutout with one walk and 10 strikeouts in Weber’s road region win.

Ellie Nielsen and Logyn Howell each had two base hits with two RBIs for Weber (14-4, 10-1 Region 1), which has already clinched the outright Region 1 championship.

Brenley Boydston had the lone hit for Layton (5-12, 3-7 Region 1).

SYRACUSE 15, FREMONT 14 (8)

PLAIN CITY — Grace Thomas batted 4 for 5 with a homer, a double and four RBIs as Syracuse won a high-scoring, extra-inning affair.

Mikela Millard hit 3 for 5 with four RBIs and Jazmine Prathan went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Syracuse (11-6, 7-4 Region 1). Brielle Milius hit two doubles and drove in three. Jacee Hammon pitched a complete game.

Reata O’Neal hit two homers and drove in five runs for Fremont (12-6-1, 5-5 Region 1). Kambri Smedley hit 3 for 5 with two runs scored. Savannah Palmatier drove in three runs and hit triple.

FARMINGTON 12, CLEARFIELD 3

CLEARFIELD — Elle Mortensen batted 4 for 5 with five RBIs and led Farmington to a big win.

Lexi Crowley homered and Lola Ogzewalla hit 3 for 5 with three RBIs for Farmington (7-5, 6-4 Region 1). Madison Kelker struck out six in a complete game pitched.

Amaiah Garcia drove in two runs and hit a double for Clearfield (3-18, 1-11 Region 1).

BASEBALL

BOUNTIFUL 10, BONNEVILLE 0

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Enrique Garcia batted 2 for 3 as Bonneville (2-15, 0-10 Region 5) dropped a six-inning region game.

Tavis Danner struck out 11 batters and allowed three hits with one walk in 5 1/3 innings pitched for Bountiful (11-8, 6-5).

CYPRUS 9, DAVIS 5

KAYSVILLE — Max Hunter batted 3 for 4 with two RBIs in Davis’ (8-13) non-region loss. Owen Talbot hit 2 for 4 and Pierson Flood had two stolen bases.
