Prep playoff roundup: Fremont soccer blanks Copper Hills to advance
PLAIN CITY — Dax Iverson kept the clean sheet and No. 3 Fremont High boys soccer netted three times in the second half on the way to a 4-0 win over No. 14 Copper Hills (9-7) in the second round of the 6A playoffs Tuesday.
Garrett Bruce opened the scoring for Fremont (14-3) in the 35th minute on a Grant Morrison assist. Tyler Ware scored in the 55th minute on an Naime Odeh assist and converted a free kick in the 59th minute. Braxton Laughter capped the scoring in the 67th minute, again on an Odeh assist.
Fremont will host a quarterfinal game Thursday against No. 6 Skyridge.
FARMINGTON 1, HERRIMAN 0
FARMINGTON — Davis Wadsworth kept a clean sheet and Chase Ashby netted on a Cole Janke assist in the second half to lead No. 4 Farmington (11-3) past No. 20 Herriman (7-10) in a 6A second-round contest.
Farmington will host No. 12 Syracuse in the quarterfinals Thursday.
HILLCREST 3, BONNEVILLE 2
MIDVALE — Dennin Anderson and Omar Piñon each netted once as No. 20 Bonneville fell at No. 4 Hillcrest (13-3) in the 5A second round.
Bonneville ends the year with a 7-8 record.

PROVO — Holden Potter struck out Cooper Clough with the tying and winning runs in scoring position to send No. 8 Bear River past No. 5 Desert Hills (15-14) in a 4A state tournament elimination game at BYU.
Gehrig Marble batted 4 for 4 with one RBI for Bear River (16-10). Easton Goodliffe hit 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Kolton Summers went 2 for 4.
Bear River next plays at 11 a.m. Wednesday at UVU in an elimination game against the loser of Tuesday’s late Snow Canyon-Mountain Crest game. If Bear River wins that game, it will play the winner of the aforementioned Snow/MC game at 4:30 p.m. for a spot in the 4A championship series.

BOUNTIFUL — St. Joseph Catholic’s Liz Randall finished tied for 20th place with a score of 114 at the 2A state tournament at Lakeside Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Jayhawks finished 11th as a team with a score of 516. Beaver won the team title with a 381, beating Rowland Hall by two shots. Natalie McLane of American Prep-Draper won medalist honors with a 2-over-par 73.
