Prep roundup: Bear River softball comes back to win 2 games, advances in 4A tournament

Bear River High softball trailed in both of its first two 4A state tournament games Wednesday and eventually won both.

The No. 2 Bears beat No. 7 Cedar 7-2 before taking down No. 3 Desert Hills 4-2 to advance in the bracket play portion of the 4A tournament at Big Cottonwood Regional Park.

Bear River plays again at 12:30 p.m. Thursday against either Desert Hills, Cedar or No. 6 Sky View. With a win Thursday, the Bears would advance to the 4A championship series from May 19-20 at BYU.

BEAR RIVER 4, DESERT HILLS 2

MILLCREEK — Against Desert Hills, the Bears (23-5) trailed 2-0 before coming to bat. Kate Dahle hit a first-pitch solo home run in the bottom of the second inning, then Bella Douglas hit a three-run homer to left-center field in the third to put BR up 4-2.

Dahle pitched 4 2/3 innings with 10 strikeouts before leaving with a cramp in her left leg. Dahle returned to the game as a hitter, but Emma Harrow stepped in to pitch and fired 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to see Bear River through.

The Bears had multiple innings with multiple runners on base after taking a 4-2 lead, but couldn’t put more runs across and finished the game with eight hits. Douglas, Dahle and Ashley Warren batted 2 for 3.

BEAR RIVER 7, CEDAR 2

MILLCREEK — Trailing 2-1 after four innings, Bear River scored three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to beat Cedar earlier on Wednesday.

Emma Harrow pitched four innings and struck out eight batters with two runs allowed before Kate Dahle entered in relief and hurled three no-hit innings with four strikeouts.

Aubree Fry batted 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Bear River. Dahle and Bella Douglas each drove in two runs.

BASEBALL

MTN CREST 15, BEAR RIVER 5

OREM — No. 8 Bear River fell behind 11-1 after two innings and its season ended in a 4A state tournament elimination game at Utah Valley University.

Ryker Jeppsen had three RBIs for Bear River (16-11). River Lish batted 2 for 2, while Holden Potter and Easton Goodliffe hit 2 for 3. Potter drove in two runs and Goodliffe hit a double.
