Prep playoff roundup: Bear River drops Game 1 of 4A championship series; Bonneville sweeps Box Elder

PROVO — Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Ridgeline’s Adi Hansen bunted a pitch down the left side that ricocheted off the third baseman’s glove and rolled to the left-field corner.

Hansen sprinted around to score on her own, and that run was the difference as No. 2 Bear River High softball (24-6) dropped a 3-2 decision against the No. 1 Riverhawks in Friday’s first game of the teams’ 4A state championship series at BYU.

Kate Dahle and Baylee Sorensen hit RBI doubles in the top of the fifth to bring Bear River to a 2-2 tie. Dahle pitched a complete game, striking out five batters and giving up six hits. The Bears had nine hits compared to Ridgeline’s six. Ashley Warren batted 2 for 3 and Bella Douglas hit 2 for 4.

The 4A championship series concludes Saturday. The second game of the series will start at 5 p.m. at BYU, with the third game if necessary to follow.

BONNEVILLE 14, BOX ELDER 10

BRIGHAM CITY — No. 15 Bonneville scored eight runs in the sixth inning to best No. 3 Box Elder and earn the rare 5A state second-round road sweep. The teams combined for 40 hits.

Kaylee McAfee batted 3 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs for Bonneville (11-9). Morgan Rich hit a two-run home run. Stocktyn Stevenson went 4 for 6 with a double and an RBI. Brityn Buchanan hit 3 for 4 with two doubles. Chandlyr Noble earned the win in six innings of relief.

Jenna Marble batted 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs for Box Elder. Stevie Checketts hit 2 for 5 with a home run and drove in two. Justy Prichard went 3 for 3 with three RBIs. The Bees end the year with an 18-8 mark.

FARMINGTON 9, CYPRUS 7

FARMINGTON — No. 8 Farmington scored six runs in the sixth inning to turn a 6-3 deficit into a 6A state second-round series sweep over No. 9 Cyprus (16-12).

Lola Ogzewalla batted 3 for 3 and drove in two for Farmington (11-5). Courtney Christiansen had two RBIs with a single. Nev Carrasquel and Lexi Crowley each batted 2 for 4 with Carrasquel driving in one. Madison Kelker pitched a complete game.

MTN RIDGE 11, WEBER 8

PLAIN CITY — No. 11 Mountain Ridge (15-10) took a 9-2 lead in the top of the third inning and swept No. 6 Weber in the teams’ 6A second-round series.

Hadley Howell batted 2 for 4 with a solo home run for Weber. Brailee Avner hit a two-run dinger. Morgan Dixon and Kendall Strasburg each had two hits. The Warriors end the year with a 16-6 record.

PLEASANT GROVE 13 & 12, FREMONT 8 & 6

PLEASANT GROVE — After winning the first game of the series Thursday, No. 12 Fremont lost 13-8 and 13-6 at No. 5 Pleasant Grove (23-6) on Friday and dropped its 6A state second-round series.

In Friday’s first game, Keysha McKean hit two home runs and drove in three for Fremont.

Reata O’Neal batted 2 for 4 with a solo home run. Audrey Cooper went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Savannah Palmatier added two hits.

In the second game, Reata O’Neal batted 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI for Fremont. Audrey Cooper hit a solo home run. Savannah Palmatier went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Keysha McKean added two hits and scored two runs. The SIlverwolves end the year with a 14-11-1 mark.

BINGHAM 10, DAVIS 0 (5)

SOUTH JORDAN — Abby Olsen smashed a triple for No. 13 Davis’ only hit in a 6A state second-round series sweep at the hands of No. 4 Bingham (20-5). Davis ends the season with a 14-10 record.
