Prep roundup: Syracuse baseball falls into elimination bracket, losing to American Fork

OREM — No. 14 Syracuse High baseball gave up five runs in the first inning and could not recover, falling 9-3 in a 6A bracket play loss to No. 7 American Fork (17-11) on Tuesday evening at Utah Valley University.

Austin Burton hit an RBI double for Syracuse (16-15). Easton Hamblin added a double and scored a run. Tatum Martin and Kyson Curtis got the other two Syracuse hits.

The Titans will have a rematch with No. 6 Riverton, who it defeated Monday, at 11 a.m. Wednesday in a 6A elimination game.

SOFTBALL

FARMINGTON 8, WEST 3

HOLLADAY — No. 8 Farmington lived to play another day by downing No. 7 West (16-6) in a 6A elimination game at Big Cottonwood Regional Park.

Lexi Crowley batted 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored for Farmington (12-6). Nev Carrasquel batted 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI. Lisa Rasmussen drove in two. Madison Kelker pitched a complete game for the win.

The Phoenix will face No. 3 Skyridge at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. If Farmington beats the Falcons, the Phoenix will get a rematch with No. 2 Herriman at 12:30 p.m.

HERRIMAN 17, FARMINGTON 0 (4)

HOLLADAY — No. 8 Farmington managed only two hits in a 6A bracket play loss to No. 2 Herriman (21-4) at Big Cottonwood Regional Park.

Elle Mortesen and Riley Eckhardt each had a hit for Farmington. Nev Carrasquel drew two walks in two plate appearances.
