Prep roundup: Syracuse baseball bows out of 6A tourney with heartbreaking walk-off loss
OREM — No. 14 Syracuse High baseball’s upset march through the 6A playoffs ended with a 5-4, walk-off loss to No. 6 Riverton deep in the bracket play portion of the tournament Wednesday at UVU.
Syracuse (16-16) built a 4-0 lead into the fifth inning with a berth in the 6A championship series on the line by the end of the day. Five Titans tallied one hit apiece, with Carson Miles hitting a double, and five different Titans drew one walk each. Miles and Taggart Hamblin each drove in a run.
Riverton’s Carson Moody hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run to tie the game in the sixth inning and drove in the winning run with a two-out single in the seventh.
Jaden Keblis threw 5 1/3 innings in a start for Syracuse, striking out four, walking one and giving up two earned runs.
SOFTBALL
SKYRIDGE 8, FARMINGTON 3
MILLCREEK — No. 8 Farmington was eliminated on the final day of bracket play in the 6A state tournament with a loss to No. 3 Skyridge at Big Cottonwood Regional Park.
Elle Mortensen batted 3 for 4 with one RBI for Farmington (12-7), which was the last Region 1 team left in the tournament.
Courtney Christiansen went 2 for 3 with a walk. The Phoenix trailed 4-3 before Skyridge scored three runs in the fifth to take control of the game.
