Bear River girls lacrosse finishes romp to 4A state title by topping Mountain Crest 19-7

HERRIMAN — No. 1 Bear River High girls lacrosse jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first 5:03 of the game to run away from region foe and No. 2 Mountain Crest (14-4) and repeat as state champions with a 19-7 victory in the 4A final Thursday at Zions Bank Stadium.

Makenzie Mickelsen led Bear River (17-1) with five goals, all of which came in a first half that saw the Bears take a 14-3 lead into the break. Marley Kierstead added three scores, bringing her season goal total to 75.

Shelby Wilkerson and Bentley Lorimer also netted three times apiece. Jasey Larkin scored two goals while Jenna LeCroix, Bethany Richad and Sydney Cunnins each netted once.

The second-straight 4A championship caps an incredible two-season run that saw Bear River post a combined 36-1 record.

“Playing unselfish, believing anyone can make plays and holding each other accountable to put in the hard work,” BR coach Jeremy Webb said about his team’s accomplishments.

LeCroix led with four assists. Lorimer and Wilkerson each tallied two assists and Shaylee McKee added one. Saydee Pebley and Hazlee Reeder combined for the win in goal.

The Bears beat Mountain Crest three times this season by a combined tally of 62-13.
