Fremont High’s boys lacrosse team lost Friday’s 6A state championship game 19-5 against No. 1 Corner Canyon at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, as the Chargers won their third straight state championship.

Corner Canyon’s Blake Franckowiak scored at the 10:03 mark of the first quarter after the Chargers won the opening faceoff and camped in No. 2 Fremont’s (18-4) half of the field after that.

Fremont’s Carson Isaacson scored a minute later to tie the game at 1-1. Then the Chargers, who have buried basically each and every opponent this year, promptly buried Fremont.

Corner Canyon scored three goals in a span of 16 seconds, then three more in a 66-second span and led 10-1 after the first quarter, scoring two goals in the quarter’s final 3.5 seconds as well.

The Silverwolves responded well in the second quarter with goals from Boston Rhees, Isaacson and Evan Clarke to get within 10-4.

Corner stuffed in two more goals to lead 12-4 at halftime and led 15-5 after three quarters, with Fremont’s Davis Searle scoring for the Silverwolves in the third. The Chargers tacked on four more goals in the final quarter.

Searle finished as the team’s leading goalscorer with 73 and Isaacson ends the year with 69 goals. Rhees, one of three seniors on the team, scored 56 goals this season.

Fremont won Region 1 this season with a 13-1 record after finishing second and third in region play over the previous two seasons. After a loss to Farmington on April 11, the Silverwolves closed the regular season with eight straight wins.

In the playoffs, Fremont beat Mountain Ridge and American Fork in the first two rounds. Owen Hill’s overtime goal gave Fremont a 17-16 win over Davis in Wednesday’s semifinal at Westminster College to get the Silverwolves to Friday’s title game.
