Fremont High football head coach Clay Bayard resigns

By PATRICK CARR - Prep Sports Reporter | Nov 15, 2023

Clay Bayard stepped down as Fremont High School’s head football coach, the school announced Wednesday morning.

Bayard resigned to “pursue opportunities outside of Education,” reads a message sent to parents.

“We are very grateful for his positive influence as well as the love and care that he has given to our athletes these last two seasons,” reads part of the message.

Bayard, a Fremont alumnus who teaches physical education at the school, was the head football coach for the last two seasons and the offensive coordinator the season before that. Fremont went 6-17 over the last two seasons.

His departure makes a total of four open head football coaching positions in Northern Utah, following coaching moves at Box Elder and Clearfield, plus the ongoing hiring process at the new West Field High in Taylor.

West Field’s opening is expected to significantly reduce Fremont’s enrollment, which in turn is expected to reduce participation across all of Fremont’s sports programs.
