Prep football: Fremont puts foot down for first win, tops Bonneville 47-13

PLAIN CITY — Two football teams in search of their first win matched up Friday night in Plain City.
In the end, one could wonder why Fremont (1-2) had struggled thus far this season and maybe could also see why Bonneville is 0-3.
Fremont scored double digits in three of the four quarters and laid it on the Lakers in a 47-13, non-region blowout.
Junior running back Cade Hadley scored four touchdowns for the Silverwolves and shredded the Bonneville defense, with a little help from his friends.
“Our O-line, they worked super hard. I’ve got to give all the credit to them. They do everything. I’m nothing without them,” Hadley said. “As a team, we’ve been able to improve our line game so much, especially since last year. It’s a team thing for sure.”
Ben Lomond transfer quarterback Manase Tuatagaloa threw three touchdown passes for Fremont, to three different receivers, and also gave props to his hogs up front.
“Our O-line did a great job of blocking so I could stay in the pocket; the receivers just worked and they were open,” Tuatagaloa said. “I trust them … all the practices we’ve been through. It was a great game plan by our coaches. We just saw what developed during the game.”
The Silverwolves led 19-6 at the half, then scored two touchdowns each in the third and fourth quarters.
“We talked about staying on the gas pedal, not giving up. Keep moving the ball; not stopping no matter what the score is,” Hadley said.
Owen Simkins caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Tuatagaloa, his second, as the Fremont lead grew to 26-6 midway through the third quarter.
Hadley scored his third rushing TD on Fremont’s next possession after an interception by Slade Parker and the bulge was 33-6.
Bonneville tried to keep within shouting distance when quarterback Cole Lueders connected with dynamic wideout Isaac Mansaray on a 41-yard pitch and run, making it 33-13 at the 4:48 mark of the period.
But on the initial play of the fourth quarter, Tuatagaloa tossed his third touchdown pass, this one to Weber transfer Salesi Moa, and the rout was on as the Silverwolves led 40-13.
So, transfer to transfer, but here’s the rest of the story:
“Having Salesi Moa on our team really helps. The defense has to focus on him. He has star ability, he’s able to get everyone else touches,” Tuatagaloa said. “He’s my cousin. We’ve played together our whole lives, seven on seven and little league.”
Hadley closed out the scoring for Fremont, on a dashing 22-yard sprint, his longest of the night, with 6:28 left in the game.
“We knew we would be able to run the ball on them. Our line felt we could win those matchups,” Hadley said. “Our whole offense was awesome … Manase threw the ball crazy. Everyone doing their best.”
Fremont jumped to a 13-0 first-quarter lead and maintained that margin at the half, up 19-6 at the break.
Jace Hadley opened the scoring for the Silverwolves on a 32-yard touchdown pass reception off a tipped ball from Tuatagaloa with 6:22 remaining in the first quarter.
A little less than four minutes later, Cade Hadley scored from 5 yards out with 2:48 left in the period, as Fremont led 13-0 after one.
The Lakers closed the gap to 13-6 with a 10-play drive, capped by a 1-yard pass from Lueders to Mansaray three snaps into the second stanza.
Cade Hadley’s second touchdown of the half, a 1-yarder with 2:10 to play, gave Fremont the 19-6 halftime edge.
Friday was a dramatic turnaround for the Silverwolves, a 68-point reversal of fortunes from last week when they lost to Roy by 34.
“After the Roy game, we kind of came together and decided we were going to work harder, continue to not give up, no matter what. We were able to turn things around,” Cade Hadley said.
Tuatagaloa has felt his new homeland has embraced him since he transferred to Fremont with his father Nate, who is the head coach, at the beginning of this year.
“First win … so nice. The community is great. Everyone coming out, showing love; really pushed us to the first win. It’s a good win,” Manase Tuatagaloa said.
Manase Tuatagaloa threw 15 of 25 for 220 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions for Fremont. Cade Hadley rushed 12 times for 50 yards. Moa hauled in 119 receiving yards on six catches. Orion Patten totaled eight tackles.
