Prep basketball playoff roundup: Ogden boys crush Union, advance to 3A semifinals
RICHFIELD — No. 3 Ogden High boys basketball trailed 16-14 after one quarter, then used a 20-4 run into halftime to take control in a 75-49 win Thursday over No. 11 Union in the 3A state quarterfinals at Sevier Valley Center.
Stockton Marriott led Ogden (20-5) with 18 points, six rebounds, four steals and shot 10 of 14 from the foul line. Jesse Jones added 17 points with five rebounds, one block and 6 of 8 from the charity stripe.
Nyiol Hauet tallied 15 points on three 3-pointers, adding five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Bingham Call added 13 points with a thunderous pick-and-roll dunk, and hit all five of his free throws. The Tigers shot 26 of 33 from the foul line.
Ogden advances to the 3A semifinals at 9:10 p.m. Friday against No. 10 Judge Memorial (12-13), who upset No. 2 Emery 69-63 on Thursday.
Wayke Olsen led all scorers with 22 points for Union (10-15).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
DAVIS 57, AMERICAN FORK 44
KAYSVILLE — Kendra Kitchen scored a game-high 20 points to lead No. 2 Davis to a 6A second-round win over No. 15 American Fork (8-16).
Kate Willard tallied 11 points for Davis (21-1) and T’Maea Eteuati added nine.
The Darts will face No. 7 Corner Canyon in the quarterfinals at 5:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at the University of Utah.
LONE PEAK 86, LAYTON 37
HIGHLAND — Avery Potter scored 14 points with four 3-pointers but No. 14 Layton fell at No. 3 Lone Peak (16-6) in the 6A second round.
Oakley Homer added eight points and two treys for Layton. The Lancers, who finished the season with a 9-15 record, made eight three-pointers and five two-pointers.
