Prep basketball playoffs: Box Elder girls beat Olympus to reach 5A semifinals

SALT LAKE CITY — No. 4 Box Elder High girls basketball led 48-39 after three quarters, then hit just enough free throws to hold off No. 12 Olympus (13-12) for a 59-55, 5A quarterfinal win late Saturday at the Huntsman Center.

Box Elder (20-5) shot 5 of 12 from the foul line in the final frame and 9 of 20 for the game. Kamri Andersen led all scorers with 17 points, adding three steals and two blocks. Ashlyn Wight scored 11 points with one 3-pointer and four assists.

Jaylee Chappell added 11 points and seven rebounds. Madi Thurdood had 12 rebounds, seven steals and three assists, while Kaydence Barber added six steals and five assists.

The Bees will face No. 1 Bountiful (21-3) in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Huntsman Center. Bountiful advanced by crushing No. 8 Brighton 62-30.

RICHFIELD 81, OGDEN 51

RICHFIELD — Stockton Marriott scored 22 points with two 3-pointers but it wasn’t enough as No. 3 Ogden High boys basketball fell to No. 5 Richfield (18-8) in the 3A third-place consolation game Saturday at Sevier Valley Center.

Nyiol Hauet added 16 points for Ogden. Josh Cochran and Bingham Call each tallied 10 points, with Cochran hitting two treys. The Tigers end the year with a 20-7 record.

No. 10 Judge Memorial, who held off a furious Ogden rally in the semifinals Friday, defeated No. 1 South Summitt 65-62 later Saturday to claim the 3A state championship.
