Davis High's Kaleb Weaver runs to third base in a game against Syracuse on Friday, April 12, 2024, in Kaysville.

Region 1 baseball was competitive from start to finish but Davis separated itself over the final two weeks and ultimately won the region crown by three games.

At 20-5 overall and after a 12-3 region season on a league-best 3.7 runs allowed per game, Davis is the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 6A state tournament. The UHSAA released playoff brackets for the 6A and 5A classifications Friday morning.

Bracket seeding is determined by an RPI formula that factors winning percentage and strength of schedule.

Five of the six Region 1 teams get hosting opportunities in the 6A tournament: Weber and Farmington each host first-round series, while Davis, Fremont and Syracuse host second-round series. Layton is on the road in the second round.

The 6A and 5A baseball tournaments follow the same three-stage format, but with different numbers of teams to account for the difference in classification sizes.

The tournaments begin with two rounds of regional play at home sites; first, a best-of-three series on May 11 and 13. Winners advance to play another best-of-three series May 16-17.

With eight teams remaining, the second stage consists of two double-elimination brackets held May 20-23. In 6A, bracket play is hosted at BYU, while 5A plays at Utah Valley University.

The two teams that emerge from bracket play face off in a best-of-three championship series May 24-25. Both 6A and 5A championship series will be at UVU.

Below are the initial matchups for Northern Utah teams. Full brackets can be found at www.uhsaa.org.

6A PLAYOFFS

All 18 teams in Class 6A make the tournament bracket. The first-round series are contested only by seeds 15-18, with the top 14 seeds awaiting second-round series.

American Fork (18-6) is the No. 1 seed.

FIRST ROUND (May 11 and 13): No. 18 Westlake at No. 15 Farmington (winner gets No. 2 Davis); No. 17 Herriman at No. 16 Weber (winner gets No. 1 American Fork)

SECOND ROUND (May 16-17): Farmington/Westlake at No. 2 Davis, No. 11 Pleasant Grove at No. 6 Fremont, No. 9 Bingham at No. 8 Syracuse, No. 12 Layton at No. 5 Lehi

5A PLAYOFFS

5A is the largest classification. With 31 total teams, the top 24 make the playoff bracket. Roy (6-19) was the first team out, as its 1-10 non-region record hindered its resume despite finishing above Northridge and Bonneville in Region 5.

Teams seeded 9-24 face off in first-round series, with the top eight seeds getting byes to the second round.

Brighton (22-3) is the No. 1 seed.

FIRST ROUND (May 11 and 13): No. 18 Northridge at No. 15 Clearfield (winner gets No. 2 Maple Mountain); No. 19 Cedar Valley at No. 14 Box Elder (winner gets No. 3 Viewmont); No. 22 Bonneville at No. 11 Spanish Fork (winner gets No. 6 Salem Hills)
