Prep roundup: Farmington, LCA soccer reach state semifinals

FARMINGTON -- Jaxon Beynon kept a clean sheet as No. 1 Farmington High boys soccer shut out No. 8 Skyridge (8-8) by a score of 2-0 in the 6A quarterfinals Thursday.

Chase Ashby and Cole Janke each netted for Farmington (15-1). Jack Burrup and Ben Wright each had an assist.

The Phoenix will face No. 4 Pleasant Grove (11-5) at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, in the semifinals at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.

AMERICAN FORK 4, WEBER 3

AMERICAN FORK -- No. 10 Weber led 3-1 until the 72nd minute when No. 2 American Fork (14-2) scored three goals in four minutes to win in the 6A quarterfinals.

Carter Archuleta, Garrett Graves, Christian Roediger each netted for Weber (8-8). Jace Rydalch assisted one score.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN def. DESERT HILLS (4-2 PKs)

OGDEN -- After ending full time 2-2, No. 1 Layton Christian outshot No. 8 Desert Hills (9-7) in a penalty shootout to win the 4A quarterfinals match at Spence Eccles Sports Complex.

Tito Souza and Matheus Alvarenga each scored for Layton Christian (15-1). Souza, Yan Simas, João Gabriel Silva and Joaquim Diniz converted penalty kicks.

LCA will face No. 4 Murray (14-2) at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, in the semifinals at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.

DAVIS 6, FARMINGTON 3

KAYSVILLE -- Wally Grant batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs as No. 2 Davis beat No. 15 Farmington in Game 1 of a 6A second-round series

Owen Talbot batted 2 for 4 and drove in one for Davis (21-5). Kaleb Weaver and Seth Jarman each hit an RBI single. Andrew Filimoehala earned the win with five hits, two earned runs and two strikeouts over six innings.

Easton Wight hit a two-run single for Farmington (11-17). Max Pearson hit a double.

FREMONT 3, PLEASANT GROVE 2

PLAIN CITY -- Garet Jones hit a two-run double to give No. 6 Fremont the lead for good in the third inning in a Game 1 win over No. 11 Pleasant Grove (14-12) in the 6A second-round.

Brigg Grange hit an RBI single for Fremont (17-9). Brant Koford pitched a complete game with eight hits, two earned runs and nine strikeouts in the win.

SYRACUSE 8, BINGHAM 4

SYRACUSE -- Tag Hamblin hit two solo home runs to lead No. 8 Syracuse to a 6A second-round Game 1 win over No. 9 Bingham (14-12).

Jake Hopkins batted 2 for 4 and drove in two for Syracuse (14-11-1). Broc Hopkins went 2 for 3. Dawson Raymond hit a two-run single. Jaden Keblis got the win with two hits, two earned runs and two strikeouts over five innings.

LEHI 13, LAYTON 5

LEHI -- Talon Hansen batted 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs as No. 12 Layton fell at No. 5 Lehi (17-9) in Game 1 of a 6A second-round series.

Tanner Neil batted 2 for 3 for Layton (13-12). Eli Anderson and Carter Shoenfeld each hit an RBI single.

AMERICAN FORK 11, WEBER 1

AMERICAN FORK -- Mason Schmitt and Dax Rhees got the only two hits for No. 16 Weber (9-19) in a 6A second round Game 1 loss at No. 1 American Fork (20-6).

VIEWMONT 11, BOX ELDER 1

BOUNTIFUL -- Kellen Kohlert batted 2 for 2 and drove in the only run for No. 14 Box Elder (15-14) as the Bees fell in their 5A second-round Game 1 at No. 3 Viewmont (19-5).

DIXIE 10, BEAR RIVER 2

WEST JORDAN -- Holden Potter batted 2 for 3 with a double and scored both runs but No. 5 Bear River fell to No. 1 Dixie late Wednesday in a 4A elimination game.

Degan Rigby batted 2 for 3 and drove in one for Bear River. Talon Marble, Kilton Summers and Thomas Summers each had a hit.

The Bears, who advanced to the final four in 4A, end the season with a 23-8 record.

DESERT HILLS 4, BEAR RIVER 3

SPANISH FORK -- No. 7 Bear River's run through the one-loss bracket ended one game away from the 4A championship series as the Bears (18-10) fell 4-3 to No. 2 Desert Hills (25-3) on Thursday evening.

Stats were not available for this game as of press time.

BEAR RIVER 6, DESERT HILLS 3

SPANISH FORK -- Luci Roche hit a solo home run to help No. 7 Bear River survive in a 4A elimination game win over No. 2 Desert Hills (24-4) on Thursday afternoon and set up a winner-take-all rematch with the Thunder.

Aubree Fry batted 2 for 4 and scored one run for Bear River (18-9). Alex Udy hit a two-run single and Molly Canfield added an RBI single. Katelyn Wilson pitched a complete game with three hits, one earned run and six strikeouts.

BEAR RIVER 12, PAYSON 1

SPANISH FORK -- Luci Roche batted 4 for 5 with two RBIs as No. 7 Bear River bested No. 6 Payson (18-11) in six innings to advance in an elimination game win Thursday morning.

Kaya Towne went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored for Bear River (17-9). Molly Canfield had two hits and drove in two. Alex Udy doubled. Katelyn Wilson earned the win with four hits, one earned run and six strikeouts over five innings.

DAVIS 6, SYRACUSE 3

KAYSVILLE -- Chloe Perry hit an RBI triple as No. 5 Davis downed No. 12 Syracuse in the first game of a 6A first-round series.

Rayleigh Starnes hit a two-run single for Davis (17-5). Jada Chilton batted 2 for 4 and scored twice. Hadlee Isaacs hit a triple and scored two runs. Serena Roth pitched a complete game with nine hits, three earned runs and five strikeouts.

Jazmine Prathan batted 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs for Syracuse (9-11). Olivia Harker went 3 for 4 and scored twice.

BOX ELDER 13, CEDAR VALLEY 12

BRIGHAM CITY -- No. 4 Box Elder scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off win over No. 13 Cedar Valley (13-13) in Game 1 of their 5A second-round series.

Stevie Checketts batted 2 for 4 with a solo home run for Box Elder (20-4). Justy Prichard hit a double and drove in three while Kennadie Blackmer added a two-run double. Brook Richards drove in two with a single. Lucy Braegger earned the win with no hits and one strikeout in one inning of relief.

OLYMPUS 6, BONNEVILLE 5

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- Morgan Rich batted 3 for 4 with a double but it wasn't enough as No. 7 Bonneville fell at home to No. 10 Olympus (17-8) in Game 1 of a 5A second-round series.

Annie Stevenson batted 2 for 4 and drove in two for Bonneville (16-6). Baylee Andreasen added a double.
