State track and field: Morgan boys win team title, Weber’s Hamblin sets records

PROVO — Morgan High boys won the 3A team state championship and Weber sophomore Josh Hamblin set a new state record in the 110-meter hurdles at the UHSAA state track and field championship meet held Thursday through Saturday at BYU.

For Weber, Hamblin set a new all-classifications boys record at 13.80 seconds in the 110-meter hurdle finals, besting the 13.81 mark by West Jordan’s Jake Garlick from that stood for 24 years. Hamblin now holds two of the three fastest 110 hurdles times in state history after running 13.84 two weeks ago.

Hamblin also ran 36.51 in the 300 meters, besting his own 6A record that now puts him second overall in all classifications, and took first in the long jump.

The Weber boys team finished third in 6A with 66.5 points, a team race Corner Canyon ran away with by scoring 152 points.

In the 3A competition, Morgan outdistanced Juab 102.5 to 87 in team points for its fifth boys state title and fourth since 2019. Brogan Garrett and Tucker Giles won individual state titles for Morgan, which also took first in the 4×400 relay and the sprint medley relay.

Box Elder’s girls team finished third in 5A.

Boys 4×100 relay: Box Elder, 42.79 (Easton Connelly, Jeremylee Macias, Wyatt Abraham, Carson Olsen, with Kaden Wheeler, Cannon Downs, Carter Behunin, Brock Bissegger)


Girls high jump: Abby Titus, Morgan, 5-3

Boys 400 meters: Brogan Garrett, Morgan, 47.74

Boys 800 meters: Tucker Giles, Morgan, 1:58.24

Boys shot put: Jake East, Ben Lomond, 50-2.5

Boys 4×400: Morgan, 3:22.92 (Tucker Giles, Maverick Guymon, Kenneth Whitmer, Brogan Garrett, with Bodie Erickson, Brakken Ball, Esplan McClellan, Hayden Gines)
