Baseball/softball playoffs: Bear River seats itself No. 1 in 4A softball postseason race

The 3A and 4A softball championships share bracket play at Spanish Fork Softball Complex from May 8-16; The 3A title game is scheduled for May 10 at Spanish Fork and the 4A title game is slated for May 15-16 at BYU.
The 4A baseball championship hosts regionals and super regionals May 2-9 at home sites; Bracket play and the state championship are scheduled for May 12-17 at Utah Tech in St. George.
4A SOFTBALL PLAYOFF
Region 11 champion Bear River (26-2) earned the top seed and a regional bye in the 4A playoffs. BR hosts the winner of No. 16 Stansbury (10-11) and No. 17 Murray (9-8) in a best-of-3 super regional May 8-9 in Garland.
A first-ever postseason for No. 3 West Field (15-4) also includes a regional bye. The Longhorns host the winner of No. 14 Sky View (9-16) and No. 19 Dixie (10-16) in a best-of-3 super regional May 8-9 in Taylor.
Winners advance to “bracket play” May 13-14 at Spanish Fork Softball Complex. The 4A championship series is scheduled May 15-16 at BYU.
3A SOFTBALL PLAYOFF
Region 13 runner-up Morgan (15-6) checks into the 3A playoff as the No. 2 seed and will host the winner of No. 15 American Leadership Academy (6-12) and No. 18 Delta (3-24) on Saturday in a four-team pod Saturday that also includes North Sanpete and Carbon.
No. 12 Ogden (5-16) travels to a pod hosted by No. 4 Emery on Saturday and first plays No. 5 South Summit (16-11).
No. 16 Ben Lomond (1-11) contests a play-in game Saturday with No. 17 Judge Memorial Catholic (4-13) at Grantsville, with the winner drawing a first-round game against No. 1 Grantsville (20-8) in the pod it’s hosting.
Saturday’s pod-site games include an elimination game played in the evening between losers of the previous two games.
After Saturday’s pod sites, action moves to the Spanish Fork Softball Complex to complete the double-elimination tournament May 8-10.
4A BASEBALL PLAYOFF
No. 7 Bear River joined seven other schools in evading the regional round with a bye in the 4A state championship bracket released Wednesday.
No. 11 West Field (15-10) hosts a best-of-3 series with No. 22 Green Canyon (5-19) on Friday and Saturday. The winner advances to a super-regional series at No. 6 Dixie.
Bear River (17-7) will host the series winner of No. 10 Provo (16-8) and No. 23 Logan (5-16) on May 8-9.
Regionals from May 2-3 and super regionals from May 8-9 are all contested at home sites.
The remaining teams begin bracket play May 12-15 at Utah Tech in St. George. The best-of-3 championship series is scheduled May 16-17 at UTU.
