Prep roundup: Fremont soccer, baseball teams keep drama alive in Region 1
Box Elder's Howells throws one-hitter

PLAIN CITY — Jace Clark and Fremont High boys soccer blanked Davis (9-5, 6-3 Region 1) by a 3-0 margin Wednesday to pull the region pack to within one game of Davis at the top of the table ahead of Friday’s season finales.
Carson VanBeekum scored twice, one in each half, to lead Fremont (10-5, 4-5). Dylan Bruce netted one goal and assisted another.
WEBER 3, FARMINGTON 1
FARMINGTON — Weber scored twice in the second half to put away a region win over Farmington (5-7, 4-5 Region 1).
Brighton Burrup, Beckham Dean and Luke Pack each scored once for Weber (12-4, 5-4). Owen Simerick, Alex Johnson and Mavrick Baker had the assists.
LAYTON 2, SYRACUSE 1
SYRACUSE — Rudy Jensen and Cheyenne Mudrow scored in the second half to lift Layton (8-6, 5-4 Region 1) over Syracuse.
Easton Cragun, assisted by Tate Jacobs, scored for Syracuse (7-9, 3-6).
BASEBALL
FREMONT 9, SYRACUSE 5
PLAIN CITY — Brant Koford hit 3 for 4 with a homer, a double and five RBIs and Fremont rallied from a 5-1 deficit with three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to take a win over Syracuse and remain tied with Davis atop Region 1.
Tad Grange got the win for Fremont (16-5, 9-2 Region 1), taking the mound with his team down 5-4 and facing the minimum over the final two innings, striking out one and walking one. Adam Mikesell hit a solo homer. Owen Simkins batted 2 for 4 with a double. Chase Jones drove in two runs.
Bronx Manning and Calder Millard each had two hits for Syracuse (5-14, 3-8). Kysen Gallegos hit a triple and drove in two runs.
DAVIS 18, WEBER 8
KAYSVILLE — Nine of 16 Davis hits were for extra bases as the Darts beat up Weber in six innings.
Owen Talbot batted 4 for 5 with two doubles and four RBIs for Davis (15-6, 9-2 Region 1), which remains tied atop Region 1 with Fremont. Kaleb Weaver batted 3 for 3 with a homer, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Carter Garrett hit 3 for 5 with two doubles. Cayman Sanchez hit a triple.
Jace Redd hit 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs to lead Weber (2-18, 1-10). Aiden Rodarte drove in two runs, Easton Pratt tripled, and Caden Lindholm and Jarett Hill each had two hits.
LAYTON 7, FARMINGTON 3
FARMINGTON — Layton took a shutout into the seventh inning and beat Farmington (5-16, 3-8 Region 1) for a region win.
Will Hoffman hit 2 for 4 and drove in two for Layton (9-11, 8-3). Fish Manning doubled and scored two runs. Nik Bielaczyc got the win with five shutout innings, spreading six hits while striking out three and walking zero. Layton is one game behind Davis and Fremont in first.
BOX ELDER 3, CLEARFIELD 0
BRIGHAM CITY — Judd Howells pitched a complete-game one-hitter as Box Elder claimed a region win over Clearfield.
Howells struck out seven and walked two in seven innings for Box Elder (5-16, 2-9 Region 5). Kellen Kohler doubled and scored a run. Greyson Burt and Bridger Richards each drove in one.
Ryan Frei recorded the hit for Clearfield (11-11, 7-4), a second-inning double. Brody Unck took the hard-luck loss, allowing zero earned runs on four hits across six innings, striking out nine and walking four.
BONNEVILLE 3, ROY 2
WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville made three third-inning runs stand up in a region win over Roy.
Jet Hirschi opened the scoring with an RBI triple for Bonneville (9-13, 3-8 Region 5) and scored on an error. Ryker Allen capped the Lakers’ scoring with an RBI single and got the complete-game win in a gem, allowing just four hits while striking out eight and walking zero.
Connor Robinson recorded both runs for Roy (10-12, 2-9) with a two-run double in the sixth. Parker Skidmore took the loss, allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out seven and walking three.
WOODS CROSS 16, NORTHRIDGE 11
LAYTON — A 10-run third for Woods Cross (13-9, 8-3 Region 5) doomed Northridge in a region loss.
Jon Olsen hit 2 for 5 with a double and four RBIs for Northridge (14-8, 6-5). Cooper Tubbs hit a three-run homer and drew a bases-loaded walk for his four RBIs. Boston Wright hit 3 for 5 and scored three runs from the leadoff spot.
SOFTBALL
BOUNTIFUL 4, LAYTON 0
BOUNTIFUL — Nora Morrow held back Bountiful’s offense but it wasn’t enough to match freshman pitcher Dylan Carpenter’s two-hit, 13-strikeout shutout as Bountiful (21-3) won in a non-region get-together.
Morrow, a sophomore, allowed two earned runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking two in six innings for Layton (3-17). Morrow also tallied one of Layton’s two singles; Serenity Overton had the other.
BOYS LACROSSE
ROY 8, CLEARFIELD 7 (OT)
ROY — Roy scored an overtime goal to defeat Clearfield.
Tyler Dickson scored five goals to lead Roy (4-11, 2-3 Region 5). Carter Brimhall, Bryton Ketcham and DJ Reyes each scored once. Hank Mullen recorded six saves.
Clearfield (6-9, 0-5) did not report stats.
