Fremont receiver Salesi Moa, left, hauls in a pass against the defense of Syracuse's Taysum Nacario on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, in Plain City.

Fremont High two-way football standout Salesi Moa hinted during summer camp that he “might go out of state” for college, noting he wanted everyone “to notice we’re the real deal” in his final go at the high school gridiron.

That came to pass late Thursday when Moa went live on CBS Sports College Football’s YouTube channel and pledged his college commitment to Tennessee.

Moa thanked his parents, college coaches who recruited him, his uncle Nate Tuatagaloa (now Fremont’s head coach), his brothers and others. Then he unzipped his gray jacket to reveal his bright Tennessee orange shirt, grabbed the UT hat from the table and pulled it onto his head.

Moa will play for former Weber State and Snow College quarterback Josh Heupel at Tennessee.

“Ever since I was younger, I saw Tennessee as a big stage. Like Alabama, all that. I wanted to play there and knew I could play there,” Moa said on the stream. “I wasn’t going to let the opportunity slip away from me.”

Moa’s father, Ben (currently Fremont’s defensive coordinator), was a tight end at Utah from 2002-03. One of his brothers, Aisea, just transferred to Michigan State. Those two schools joined Michigan and Washington as Moa’s finalists, but it was Tennessee in the end.

Recruiting analyst Brandon Huffman of 247 Sports called Salesi Moa an “elite pass catcher” and “elite playmaker with the ball in his hands” during the YouTube stream. While Moa is rated a four-star athlete by 247, his composite recruiting ranking (factoring in all major services) is five stars with a prospect score of 98.50.

The 6-foot-1 receiver and defensive back will play his second and final season at Fremont in 2025 after transferring there following two seasons played at Weber High. Moa has posted 800-yard receiving seasons in each of his first three high school campaigns, most recently catching 58 passes for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior at Fremont.

Moa also totaled 40 tackles and two interceptions, both returned for touchdowns, last season.
