Prep football roundup: Brant rushes Clearfield to another win

Ogden, Syracuse, Morgan also claim wins in Week 3 action

CLEARFIELD — Senior running back Sean Brant rushed 24 times for 175 yards and one touchdown to help lead Clearfield High football to its second win of the season, defeating Jordan 23-7 on Friday night.

Sophomore quarterback Brik Barlow threw 12 of 19 for 166 yards and a touchdown for Clearfield (2-1). Seven of those completions went to senior Landon Hittle for 109 yards. Easton Harmon totaled 12 tackles (seven solo) for the Falcons’ defense. Tayson Fisher and Bryson Ridge each grabbed interceptions.

SYRACUSE 35, BOUNTIFUL 7

BOUNTIFUL — Ledger Wight passed for four touchdowns and ran for one as Syracuse dominated at Bountiful.

Cohen Godderidge took a Wight pass 10 yards to open the scoring for Syracuse (3-0). Kysen Gallegos caught a 3-yard Wight scoring strike, and Wight connected with Tanner Miller for a 28-yard pitch-and-catch and a 21-0 halftime lead.

Wight scored on a 3-yard scamper, then found Miller again from 7 yards out for a 35-0 lead with 6:39 left in fourth quarter.

Bountiful got on the board on a 2-yard run with 1:46 left in the game.

OGDEN 43, CARBON 7

PRICE — Blake Weston passed for three touchdowns and Ogden’s defense held Carbon out of the end zone for a big road win.

Ogden (2-1) opened the scoring when Weston connected with Jack Thompson, who took the pass down the sideline 90 yards for a touchdown. With 11:48 left in the second quarter, Keen Crowther scored on a 9-yard run and ran for a 2-point conversion to put the Tigers up 15-0.

Weston tossed a 12-yard scoring strike to Nash Bockwoldt and then found Julian Ramos for a 28-yard touchdown, and Ogden led 29-0. Carbon returned the ensuing kickoff for the Dinos’ only score.

Anderson Curry scored on a 3-yard dive, then Crowther capped the scoring on an 18-yard run with 7:09 left in the third quarter.

MORGAN 24, PARK CITY 21

MORGAN — Owen Gilson passed for one touchdown and ran for another to lead Morgan past Park City.

Gillson subbed in early in the first half for the injured Morgan (2-1) starter Cade Randall. Gilson found Brody Peterson for a short pass over the middle with 2:14 left in the second quarter, and Peterson turned the pass into a 37-yard touchdown.

Kanyon Lionelli scored on a 7-yard run, giving the Trojans a 12-7 lead at the 6:20 mark of the third quarter. After Park City took a 14-12 lead on an 80-yard run up the middle, George Thurston scored on a 1-yard plunge for an 18-14 lead with 9 seconds left in the third quarter.

PC answered with an 80-yard pass to take a 21-18 lead with 11:48 left in the game. Gilson capped a long drive with a 2-yard quarterback keeper on a fake handoff with 6:56 left in the game. Morgan’s PAT woes continued when the kick boinked off the upright, but the Trojans led 24-21 and went on to victory.

CORNER CANYON 67, FREMONT 21

PLAIN CITY — Cade Hadley scored on a 17-yard run to pull Fremont into a 31-21 deficit, then Corner Canyon scored the game’s final 36 points.

Manase Tuatagaloa threw two touchdown passes for Fremont (2-1). Tuatagaloa found Taggart Burton for a 6-yard score late in the first quarter, and Salesi Moa took a Tuatagaloa pass 35 yards to the end zone on the first possession of the second half.

SALEM HILLS 33, WEST FIELD 15

SALEM — Boston Kap returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to give West Field a 15-10 halftime lead, then Salem Hills outscored the Longhorns 23-0 in the second half.

West Field (2-1) opened the scoring with a safety at the 4:00 mark of the first quarter. Easton Eilertson scored West Field’s only offensive touchdown on a 5-yard run for a 8-7 lead with 7:41 left in the second quarter.

KIMBERLY-ID 38, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 8

POCATELLO — Trevor Halalilo scored on a 12-yard run with less than 2 minutes left in the game, and Hayden Tuinei rushed for a 2-point conversion, but Layton Christian Academy (2-1) fell to Kimberly (Idaho) in the Rocky Mountain Rumble held at Idaho State.

OGDEN — St. Joseph beat Wendover (1-7, 0-1 Region 22) in straight sets: 25-10, 25-8, 25-12.

Mya Rogers paced St. Joseph (4-6, 1-1) with eight kills, six aces and four digs. Sophia Fischer tallied nine kills and 11 assists. Sophie Yates added eight digs and served four aces.
