The Longhorns took eight matches from Roy for a 45-34 home win in Thursday night’s region dual.

West Field senior Colby Tennant (144 pounds) and junior Xander Crawford (150 pounds) combined for 28 points in their respective wins over Roy sophomore Garrett Blackner (technical fall, 4:37) and senior Maximo Quintana (major decision) in two of the longest matches of the night.

Roy senior Kaleb Blackner (132 pounds) scooped 25 points individually against West Field sophomore Gunner Knudsen in a 25-16 major decision.

Junior Trevor White (165 pounds), junior Isaac Guerrero (126 pounds), and freshman Adrian Mascerenas (105 pounds) picked up individual wins for the Royals, in addition to two forfeits and another favoring West Field.

Dixon leads Roy girls over West Field in final bout

Roy junior Leah Dixon defeated West Field’s Sky Wild 5-0 (fall, 0:57) in the final girls match (235 pounds) to push the Royals over the Longhorns 30-24 in their Region 5 season opener on Thursday.

In the win, Roy won five total matches and conceded two forfeits to West Field in the 145-, 155- and 190-pound matches.

The Longhorns opened the night ahead 6-0 via 110-pound freshman Audrey Deeter’s 3-0 victory over Roy sophomore Kaya Quintana (fall, 0:35), but it’d become the team’s lone win against a physical opponent.

Roy answered West Field, winning five of the next eight matches:
