Prep basketball roundup: Weber boys use big 1st half to beat Clearfield

PLEASANT VIEW — Weber High boys basketball outscored Clearfield 26-5 in the second quarter for a 23-point halftime lead on the way to a 70-58 home win Thursday night.

Derek Bowden paced Weber (3-3) with 15 points. Ethan Sayer scored 14 points, Thomas Packer tallied 12 points and Carson Hill added 11.

Jack Galvan led all scorers with 26 points and two 3-pointers for Clearfield (1-7). Bode Davis tallied 13 points and Alyric Kelley added 10 points with two treys.

WEST FIELD 76, VIEWMONT 65

TAYLOR — Drew Faddis scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in a high-scoring second half where West Field outpaced Viewmont 46-40 on the way to a home victory.

Cason Malan scored 16 points for West Field (3-3). Daxton Laughter totaled 14 points and Jaden Fowers added 13.

OGDEN — Ogden led 13-11 after one quarter, but was held to single digits in each subsequent quarter in a home loss to Union.

Taylor Duke led Ogden (4-5) with 13 points. Megan Beus and Salote Tonga each scored four points.

MTN VIEW 67, BEAR RIVER 32

GARLAND — Maylee Higley hit four 3-pointers to lead Bear River (3-5) with 12 points in a lopsided home loss.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 56, BRIGHTON 41

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Layton Christian Academy outscored Brighton in the second half to break a 26-26 halftime tie for a road win Tuesday.

Ava Smith led Layton Christian (5-2) with 17 points and nine rebounds. Tuana Sultan added 13 points and seven boards. Gracie Maloney-Holland and Esmasultan Cosman each scored 11 points.

OLYMPUS 68, BOX ELDER 49

BRIGHAM CITY — Olympus outscored Box Elder 20-10 in the first quarter and that was enough to deal the Bees a home loss Wednesday.

Halli Wright led Box Elder (4-5) with 12 points. Emma Nelson added 11 points and Brielle Yates pitched in nine.
