Prep basketball roundup: Davis boys win tournament in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — Davis High boys basketball won the “Black Bracket” of the KSA Events Holiday Tournament with a 66-27 blowout of Green Mountain (Lakewood, Colorado) on Saturday afternoon in Orlando.

Cameron Brower led Davis (8-2) with 22 points and Bode Sparrow added 17 points with three steals.. Tradon Bessinger added five points, eight rebounds and three assists. Davis scored 46 points in the paint and held Green Mountain to 10 field goals, including a fourth-quarter shutout.

DAVIS 68, McDOWELL-PA 56

ORLANDO, Fla. — Davis trailed 21-15 after one quarter, but took control with a 25-9 third quarter to take control in a Friday win over McDowell (Erie, Pennsylvania) in the KSA Events Holiday Tournament.

Tradon Bessinger led all scorers with 21 points on three 3-pointers and 12 rebounds for Davis (7-2). Bode Sparrow tallied 16 points with seven assists. JT Turley added 14 points and six assists.

LAYTON 67, ST. AUGUSTINE-CA 59

LAS VEGAS — Layton led 41-23 at the half in a win over St. Augustine (San Diego, California) at the Tarkanian Classic.

Nic Anderson and Karter Miller each scored 21 points for Layton (7-1). Anderson hit four 3-pointers and Miller added two treys. Tage Allen scored eight points and Chase Randall added seven.

WEBER 63, WOODS CROSS 55

WOODS CROSS — Weber ran out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter in a road win at Woods Cross.

Derik Bowden scored a game-high 22 points with two 3-pointers for Weber (5-3). Ethan Sayer, Carson Hill and Beau Potokar each added 20 points.

WEST FIELD 57, BOUNTIFUL 48

TAYLOR — West Field outscored Bountiful 26-17 in the second half to break a 31-31 halftime tie and grab a home win.

Daxton Laughter and Jaden Fowers each scored 18 points for West Field (5-4), with Fowers hitting four 3-pointers and Laughter adding three treys. Drew Faddis added 12 points.

OGDEN 77, CHAPARRAL-NV 47

LAS VEGAS — Ogden led 38-26 at the half in a win over Chaparral (Las Vegas) at the Tarkanian Classic.

Tayson Porter led Ogden (4-4) with 19 points and two 3-pointers. Jackson Maw and Briggs Galbraith each scored 16 points, with Galbraith adding three treys. Peter Archibald tallied 10 points with two 3-pointers.

INT CHRISTIAN 69, BEN LOMOND 67

HOLLADAY — Ben Lomond outscored Intermountain Christian 16-11 in the fourth quarter but couldn’t complete the comeback in a road loss.

Taggart Bush led Ben Lomond (1-9) with 24 points. Cole Parkinson scored 21 points and Kru Boyle added 13 points.

SYRACUSE — Syracuse outscored Grantsville 39-12 in the second half for a big a home win.

Maylee Anderson led all scorers with 13 points for Syracuse (8-2). Rachel McBride scored 12 points and Zaydie Peterson hit three 3-pointers for nine points.

BOX ELDER 56, KEARNS 27

OGDEN — Box Elder ran out to a 22-6 lead after one quarter in a big win against Kearns in a game played at Ben Lomond.

Marley Barber led Box Elder (5-6) with 13 points on three 3-pointers. Brielle Yates tallied 10 points while Halli Wright, Brooklyn Nelson and CoCo Jensen each scored six points.

DAVIS 42, RIVERTON 34

DAVIS — Davis outscored Riverton 16-6 in the fourth quarter to rally to a win.

Kate Willard scored a game-high 12 points for Davis (6-4). Lydia Tarbet tallied seven points while Hannah Garlock and Cambell Christensen each added five points.

BEAR RIVER 37, DESERET PEAK 34

GARLAND — Bear River used a 24-19 second-half advantage for a region win over Deseret Peak (3-7, 1-3 Region 12).

Maylee Higley scored a game-high 15 points with two 3-pointers for Bear River (4-7, 1-3). Ava Driggs tallied 11 points and Sami Theurer added six.

BEN LOMOND 36, ROWLAND HALL 26

SALT LAKE CITY — Ben Lomond held Rowland Hall scoreless in the first quarter for a road win in the Rowland Hall tournament.

Brooklyn Richey and Trinytee Martinez each scored 10 points for Ben Lomond (1-7). Regahn Espinoza added nine points.

WEST 53, CLEARFIELD 50

CLEARFIELD — Clearfield outscored West 18-10 in the fourth quarter but came up short in a home loss.

Isabelle Wyaskett led Clearfield (5-5) with 21 points on three 3-pointers. Ciara De La O scored nine points and Brighton Bernards added eight.
